Cunard: Entertainment Takes Center Stage
2026 is proving to be an extraordinary year for Cunard, as the company redefines the concept of onboard entertainment by transforming every Transatlantic Crossing into a unique cultural experience.
On board the Queen Mary 2, the British cruise line further strengthens its identity by combining tradition, elegance, and world-class programming. Among the events already presented, London Theatre at Sea has stood out as one of the most iconic moments of the season. Created in partnership with the Laurence Olivier Awards and curated by Julian Bird, Cunard brought the very best of London’s West End theatre to the middle of the Atlantic. More than a series of performances, the event delivered a rich and fully immersive experience. The special voyage, departing on May 22, featured live productions, communal singing sessions, and exclusive behind-the-scenes encounters, giving guests unprecedented access to the world of international theatre production.

What made this crossing even more extraordinary was The Oliviers in Concert, a unique production created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Laurence Olivier Awards, accompanied by the orchestra of the Royal Court Theatre. The programme was further enriched by interactive workshops designed to engage guests directly, as well as a theatrical gala evening complete with a red carpet experience and the opportunity to be photographed alongside an authentic Olivier Award. Together, these experiences transformed the crossing into a true theatre festival at sea. This artistic direction was further reinforced by the maritime debut of The Constant Wife. Cunard renewed its collaboration with David Pugh, the Olivier and Tony Award-winning producer, bringing on board the new Royal Shakespeare Company production, which premiered on May 29 during its UK tour.
Written by the award-winning Laura Wade and starring Kara Tointon, the play combines elegance with modernity, delivering a witty and contemporary narrative. Adding further distinction to the production is the original score by acclaimed jazz artist Jamie Cullum, whose music brings additional depth and character to the performance. It is a compelling example of how Cunard successfully brings world-class theatrical productions to sea while maintaining standards comparable to those of the world’s leading stages, transforming the crossing into a fully immersive cultural experience.
These events, however, represent only the beginning of a much broader programme. In the coming months, the calendar will continue with a series of prestigious new events. On September 5, maestro Anthony Inglis will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra in two evening concerts aboard the Queen Mary 2, delivering a deeply immersive and world-class musical experience. Guests will not simply attend a concert; they will have the opportunity to experience the music firsthand through dedicated talks, question-and-answer sessions, and even participation in the onboard choir, rehearsing throughout the week for a special performance alongside the orchestra.

At the same time, the celebration of the historic 450th Transatlantic Crossing will become a true journey through the company’s heritage. With “The 450 Club: Celebrate the Transatlantic“, created by the theatre company Immersive Octopus, guests will take part in an immersive programme retracing some of the most iconic moments in Cunard history, from the early performances of Noël Coward to the bravery of Arthur Rostron during the RMS Titanic sinking. The experience will be enriched by the return of the historic onboard newspaper Ocean Times, behind-the-scenes tours, talks with maritime historians, and a commemorative gala dinner accompanied by performances and interactive experiences. Together, these initiatives transform the crossing into a living narrative that seamlessly blends entertainment, culture, and historical memory.
The highly anticipated Literature Festival at Sea, departing on November 28, will also return as one of the flagship events for lovers of culture and storytelling. Created in partnership with the Cheltenham Literature Festival and curated by The Times and The Sunday Times, the festival will bring together authors, journalists, historians, and critics on board for an entire week dedicated to storytelling in all its forms. Guests will have the opportunity to attend intimate talks, themed events, and book-signing sessions, transforming the ship into a true floating literary salon.
Completing the programme, Cunard will also present exclusive artistic residencies on selected crossings, spanning musicals, opera, comedy, and immersive theatre. Featured productions will include acclaimed performances such as Jimmy by Adam Riches, It’s a Mystery! by Tim Benzie, A Room of One’s Own by Dyad Productions, Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo, and the West End comedy The Last Laugh.

The 2026 programme will also be enhanced by the presence of more than 680 guest speakers from a wide range of fields, helping to create a rich and diverse cultural offering. Among the standout names are Celia Imrie, Floella Benjamin, Tony Robinson, and Andrew Strauss, further confirming the company’s commitment to delivering world-class content capable of engaging an international audience.
Cunard’s 2026 programme is far more than a simple calendar of events; it represents a clear strategic vision: transforming the journey itself into the very heart of the experience. By focusing on high-profile cultural programming and prestigious collaborations, the company is redefining the concept of entertainment at sea, offering something that goes far beyond the traditional cruise show.
