Crystal: Financing Secured for two next-generation ships
Crystal has officially finalized an ECA-backed financing agreement guaranteed by SACE for the construction of its first two next-generation cruise ships. The deal marks a decisive turning point in the company’s fleet expansion program, further solidifying its position among the elite players in the global cruise market.
The operation was led by a consortium of major financial institutions, with Citibank N.A. – London Branch acting as lead arranger, alongside Banco Santander S.A., CaixaBank S.A. – UK Branch, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A., Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena S.p.A., and Bper Banca S.p.A. According to Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Executive Chairman of A&K Travel Group (Crystal’s parent company), this banking synergy confirms the market’s confidence in Crystal’s strategy and its position in the ultra-luxury segment.

The financing was made possible thanks to the strategic support of the Italian Export Credit Agency – SACE, under the leadership of CEO Alessandra Ricci and team leader Mariano Di Biagio. Cristina Levis, CEO of AKTG, expressed deep gratitude for the dedication and vision shown by the leading Italian financial institutions involved, also highlighting the key contributions of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Simest in structuring the package. Reinforcing the robustness of the entire operation, Crystal was advised by Clifford Chance, while the lenders and SACE were assisted by Norton Rose Fulbright.
The two new vessels will represent a new frontier in luxury cruising: each will have a gross tonnage of 61,800 tons, accommodate approximately 650 guests, and offer only all-suite accommodations with private verandas, including categories specifically designed for solo travelers. The onboard experience will be supported by one of the highest crew-to-passenger ratios in the luxury sector.

The architectural design, created by internationally renowned studios, will be brought to life through Crystal’s long-standing collaboration with Fincantieri, the Italian shipbuilder with a thirty-year relationship with the Lefebvre family. The first ship is scheduled for delivery in May 2028, with the second following according to the planned timeline.
This operation marks a key milestone for Crystal, reaffirming its role as a benchmark in the high-end cruise industry. With the support of top-tier institutional and financial players and the proven expertise of Fincantieri, the company looks confidently toward the next generation of luxury at sea.
