Scenic Aura debuts on the Hooghly River

Scenic Group has announced the launch of a new program dedicated to India and Sri Lanka for the 2027–2028 season, introducing luxury river cruises on the Hooghly River for the first time thanks to the arrival of the boutique vessel Scenic Aura.

Starting in October 2027, the vessel, which will accommodate a maximum of 44 passengers, will operate a series of all-inclusive itineraries designed to offer an immersion into the cultural and spiritual traditions of West Bengal. The initiative represents a further step in Scenic Group’s expansion strategy in Asia and broadens the brand’s river experience portfolio.

The new program includes five itineraries ranging from 17 to 25 days, combining Lower Ganges cruises with land stays in North India, South India, Rajasthan, and Sri Lanka. At the heart of the offering is a nine-night cruise along the Hooghly River, a historic tributary of the Ganges that flows through some of the most significant regions of the country.

Among the planned experiences are visits to the Kathgola Palace in Murshidabad, the Hooghly Imambara, and the ISKCON headquarters, as well as encounters with local artisans and journeys through the historic districts of Bengal. The itineraries will also include the Scenic Freechoice program and exclusive Scenic Enrich events, hallmark elements of the brand’s offering.

Adam Burke, Scenic Journey Designer, emphasized that the introduction of Scenic Aura on the Hooghly River represents a strategic milestone for Scenic Group, noting that the new program was developed in response to growing guest interest in authentic and culturally immersive destinations. Burke explained that the itineraries have been designed to deliver exclusive experiences in India and Sri Lanka, combining cultural depth, privileged access to iconic sites, and the high level of all-inclusive service and personalization that defines Scenic’s offering.

To support the new India program, Scenic Aura will undergo a major refurbishment led by Scenic Group’s specialist team at MKM Yachts. The goal is to transform the vessel into an even more exclusive boutique ship, aligned with the brand’s ultra-luxury standards and the expectations of a clientele seeking highly personalized experiences. Details regarding the interior redesign and public areas will be announced in the coming months.

On board, guests will benefit from the all-inclusive concept that characterizes Scenic’s offering. All suites will feature a private balcony, separate bedroom, and Scenic Sun Lounge, while the dining experience will include up to four different restaurant options. The package will also include beverages throughout the day, a fully stocked in-suite minibar, unlimited Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, yoga classes, a wellness center, a fitness area, and self-service laundry facilities.

In the combined cruise and land programs, Scenic will offer a selection of carefully chosen hotels, internal transfers, gratuities, and services included in the price. Groups during land excursions will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants, a choice designed to ensure a more authentic, immersive, and personalized experience.

According to Scenic Group, the debut in the Indian market stems from growing guest demand for cultural and authentic destinations. The expansion into India is also part of a broader growth strategy by Scenic Group in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to the launch of Scenic Aura on the Hooghly, the group also plans further developments in 2028, including the introduction of the new Scenic Spirit II on the Mekong alongside Scenic Spirit, the return of Scenic Eclipse II in Asia and Oceania, and the debut of the new Emerald Xara. Taken together, these investments will significantly strengthen the group’s presence in the region, expanding its offering across river cruises, expedition voyages, and high-end land itineraries.
