P&O Cruises: Arvia leaves the shipyard

The last cruise ship built at Meyer Werft shipyards, Arvia, left Papenburg on Saturday, November 5, 2022, and was transferred to Eemshaven (Netherlands) on the Ems. She is scheduled to arrive in Eemshaven on Monday, November 7. After technical and nautical testing, Arvia will set course for Bremerhaven for subsequent delivery to P&O Cruises.

The new ship is equipped with the LNG propulsion system, considered among the cleanest currently available in the maritime industry. This means that Arvia represents a vanguard in the industry. Even now, thanks to LNG propulsion, in addition to the reduction in CO2 emissions, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter are almost completely avoided – sulfur oxides are completely eliminated. All cruise ships in Meyer Werft’s order book currently have this low-emission propulsion system.

Parallel to the completion of Arvia, two other innovative cruise ships are currently under construction at the Papenburg shipyard: the Silver Nova for Silversea Cruises and the Carnival Jubilee for Carnival Cruise Line. The former will set new standards in environmental protection and, in addition to LNG engines, will be equipped with the world’s largest fuel cell system on a cruise ship. The ship can be operated completely emission-free by this system even while in port.

Arvia, sister ship of the Iona, entering service in 2020, has 2,614 cabins and is designed for 5,200 passengers. One of the highlights on board is the SkyDome, an entertainment area with a pool whose glass dome can be opened.
