The winter Mediterranean according to Windstar Cruises

Among the few small ship cruise companies sailing the Mediterranean, Windstar is rewriting the concept of cruising for the 2024/2025 winter season with an exciting new offering, featuring unique experiences with increased interaction with locals, more time ashore, and new ports of call.

Unique Experiences

Many unforgettable memories are only possible by visiting the Mediterranean in winter, when the sun is less intense and the summer crowds have departed. The autumn harvests offer numerous food and wine opportunities, and Windstar’s proposal will lead travelers to take advantage of them with delightful market visits, wine tastings, and intimate cooking classes.

Festive Atmosphere

The dark days of winter are actually the big cities of Europe decking out for the holidays. Lights come on outside the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, on the Christmas trees in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, and on the canals of Venice. Christmas markets and ice skating rinks light up with festive lights and decorations. Then, in February and March, they are replaced by Carnival lights that welcome noisy parades and merry masked people.

Long Overnights

Travelers will be given the opportunity to explore iconic places like Pompeii, the Vatican, and Capri without the buzz of the crowd, or dine and shop when places are less crowded, prices are lower, and locals are more relaxed. Through a wide range of overnights, you can visit Florence and Pisa starting from the port of Livorno, or stroll through the medieval old town of Dubrovnik at night or climb its walls, or go late into the night in Barcelona tasting tapas. Overnighting in Venice will allow time to sip tea with a countess or take a romantic evening gondola ride.

In Malaga, the choice will range from the white Andalusian villages to Cordoba, while in Catania, you can join the locals for a pleasant evening stroll or choose to spend the day in Taormina.

New Ports of Call

The Winter Mediterranean proposed by the company also features new ports never visited before, offering the chance to visit famous places in Windstar’s exclusive style. In Crotone, a small village in southern Italy, you can visit charming parks and historical monuments, while from Genoa, you can choose to visit Milan to take a look at Leonardo’s manuscript or participate in a cooking class in a Renaissance palace.

Some ports represent rare stops for Windstar. In Naples, a brand-new excursion will stop at the Reggia di Caserta, the largest former royal residence in the world and a well-known Star Wars filming location, while in Valencia, you can take a nice bike ride through this modern city or taste local delicacies at the Central Market.

It’s a new concept for an unforgettable winter cruise in the Mediterranean, with all the attractions most loved by passengers and much more!
