Seabourn makes history: two ships met in Antarctica

Seabourn makes history: its ultra-luxury expedition ships, Seabourn Pursuit and Seabourn Venture, meet for the first time in Antarctica, marking a historic moment for the brand.

Seabourn, a leader in ultra-luxury travel and expeditions, celebrated a historic moment when Seabourn Pursuit and Seabourn Venture, the company’s two new ultra-luxury expedition ships, sailed side by side for the first time on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. The twin ships met at the entrance of the picturesque Neko Harbor, surrounded by imposing ice landscapes, to celebrate the inaugural season of Seabourn Pursuit in Antarctica. To commemorate this historic meeting, guests and team members gathered on the expansive bow of each ship, where caviar and champagne were served.

“It was incredible to wake up this morning and virtually join our guests and team during this historic moment for our brand,” said Natalya Leahy, President of Seabourn. “We dreamt of bringing Seabourn Signature Luxury into the world of exploration. Watching our two ultra-luxury expedition ships, Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit, side by side today, and seeing our guests toast with champagne against the breathtaking backdrop of Neko Harbor made me very proud. We have truly brought this dream to life and redefined expedition experiences.”

It was a very exciting day, and we couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate our first journey to Antarctica than by meeting our sister ship, Seabourn Venture,” said Stig Betten, Captain of Seabourn Pursuit. “Many friends and colleagues from both ships applauded and toasted each other as we embarked on our expeditions in Antarctica, marking a new era in ultra-luxury expeditions.”

It was an incredible ‘Seabourn Moment’ for our guests and the crew of Seabourn Venture as we welcomed Seabourn Pursuit to Antarctica for its first season,” said Jeroen Schuchmann, Captain of Seabourn Venture. “Seeing our two ships sail side by side at the beginning of our Antarctica season confirms that we at Seabourn can introduce an ever-increasing number of people to remote and breathtaking destinations that few will ever visit.”

Seabourn Pursuit has just begun its inaugural season in Antarctica, while Seabourn Venture is starting its second season in the icy continent. Both ships will undertake 11-13-day journeys in Antarctica, as well as 21-day trips to South Georgia, the Falkland Islands, and Antarctica. These itineraries include Zodiac outings to navigate among icebergs, up-close observation of penguin colonies, and joining the ship’s Expedition Team for walks and hikes in pristine and rarely seen landscapes. Optional excursions in kayaks and submarines will also be available.

Launched in 2022 and 2023, respectively, Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit offer the same luxurious small-ship experience that travelers expect from Seabourn, enriched by world-class equipment that allows the company to offer the widest range of expedition activities led by a team of 24 experts, including scientists, scholars, world-renowned naturalists, and more. Designed and built for remote and diverse environments according to PC6 Polar Class standards, the ship includes a plethora of modern hardware and technologies that expand its global use and capabilities. The ship has almost 30,000 square meters of deck space and special touches in every corner, as well as indoor and outdoor areas for guests with nearly 270-degree views. In addition, a GSS Cineflex 4K camera is mounted on the Constellation Lounge mast and can transmit images from kilometers away to monitors located throughout the ship and in guest suites.

The ships are also equipped with enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity with SpaceX’s Starlink, offering expedition guests faster service, increased connectivity, and more reliable Wi-Fi wherever Starlink services are available. Seabourn Pursuit and Seabourn Venture, like the other ships in the Seabourn fleet, offer abundant space and elegance, eight dining venues with gourmet cuisine, and luxurious suite accommodations, including a pair of two-level Wintergarden suites. All oceanfront suites are luxuriously furnished with a private veranda.
