A Family Experience in Porto: the World of Discoveries

Porto, a city known for its architectural heritage, wines, and tastings, offers visitors a variety of experiences for all tastes.

n fact, for those who want a unique experience in Porto, either because they already know the city or because they want to venture outside the usual tourist paths, it is possible to visit the World of Discoveries, an innovative museum located right in the heart of the city, precisely on Rua de Miragaia, Porto.

At first glance, it might seem like an experience designed only for children, but it will actually prove to be suitable for families, couples, or adults looking to enjoy carefree moments while learning something new.

The World of Discoveries– Interactive Digital Exhibition is a space that reconstructs the odyssey of Portuguese navigators who crossed the oceans during the same period, discovering an unknown world. Portugal played a significant role in this process for centuries, creating new ocean routes and circulating people, animals, and plants around the world. This space explores the meeting of cultures, ambitions, ideas, efforts, and innovations that made all of this possible.

Indeed, the museum of discoveries, an immersive, technological, and highly engaging museum, has various multimedia rooms that tell the story of the evolution of oceanic voyages and everything related to them. After visiting the different rooms, visitors find themselves in front of an “embarkation” where small ships on rails circulate, navigating on an artificial river. The tour, lasting almost 25 minutes, includes a narrator telling the story of Portuguese conquests around the world, all experienced in a 360-degree setting that allows you to smell, feel seasons, and hear sounds typical of the places. An interesting way to learn about the world of Portuguese explorers from Ferdinand Magellan to Vasco da Gama and many others.

At the end of the visit, you can relax in the ‘Mundo de Sabores’ restaurant, which serves delicacies from the cuisines of countries such as Portugal, China, Japan, India, and Brazil.

The museum also offers multilingual tours in Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, German, and Italian. Tickets can be booked online to optimize time and skip long queues at the entrance. The park is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and on weekends and holidays from 10 am to 7 pm. The full visit takes just over an hour and a half. Inside the museum, you can also participate in activities created for both adult groups and children, including themed dinners and events.

The adventure at the World of Discoveries museum is undoubtedly a perfect experience for those who want to bring a timeless souvenir in their luggage, a journey to discover great achievements that provides not only a moment of fun but also an educational experience for both children and adults.
