Msc Grandiosa: Vip Press Cruise Reportage

Our first impressions aboard MSC Grandiosa, new Msc Cruises flagship, premiered during the VIP Press Cruise!

Ronny Cop’s → Msc Grandiosa Review

First impression of the ship was WoW, the ship looks stunning from the outside while standing on the docks. This ship is proud to be a member of the MSC Cruises fleet and you see that from the first moment you arrive. Although it is the biggest one yet you clearly can see that they follow the lines of the smaller ships which is great.

Boarding process was easy once you were past inspection by the French police, no problems beyond that point.

First impression direct after boarding was even more ‘Grand’. You board direct on the Galleria Grandiosa so she delivers that big WoW feeling from the first moment you board. The Galleria Grandiosa is the main feature on this class of ships which begins at a three deck high Atrium untill way up in the front of the ship at the Theatre La Comedie. The cieling of the Galleria is a virtual dome were they project many different color schemes operated by led lights. Along the Galleria you have shops, bars and restaurants on both deck 6 and 7. You have designer shops, juwelry stores, the logo shop and more. Speciality restaurants are a Sushi Restaurant, a steak restaurant on deck 7 and a Tapas Bar on deck six and more.

The atrium is three deck high with lots of bling bling and offcourse the Swarovski stairs wich are a real added value in this concept.

In the aft of the ship you go through the casino towards another theatre with the stage right in the middle, Carousel Lounge. A theatre were you get actually the feeling of being part of the show.

Outside decks are well taught and well designed. In the front you have the interior pool which is themed in an African concept and named Safari Pool and Bar. In the middle you have the Admosphere Pool and Bar and a lot of open deck space. Here also a great concept and great looks. Especially at night with those blue lights. It gives a sexy feeling to the outside decks at night.

Just after the funnel aria you have Wild Forest Aqua Park, which is great for kids and the young adults. Also this is done in one line and it all is in the same concept. Way at the aft you have another pool, the Horizon Pool and the Horizon Amphitheatre.

Inside on deck 15 you have the Marketplace with lots of seating area and probably the biggest and longest buffet at the high seas. Just above the MarketPlace you have the Doremi Kids Club with groups for all ages. You also have the bowling, the Formule 1 simulator, 4 D cinema and a full sportcourt usable for different sports and parties.

All the way in the front of the ship you have the Yacht Club which is build on ‘the ship in the ship’ concept. This is a separate area on the top decks with butler and concierge service with their own restaurant, Pools and open deckspace. Inside the YC you have the Top Sail Lounge, the Yacht Club restaurant. You have interior, deluxe Suites and Two Royal Suites featuring the Yacht Club.

MSC Cruises put us in a Fantastica Balcony on deck 10 :

Stateroom was comfortable with everything that suits your needs. The bed is at the balcony side and the bathroom comes with a shower with glass door. Colors of the room are red and brown which go well together in this concept. The balcony is big enough for two seats and a coffee table and still some place to stand.

Food aboard MSC Grandiosa was top notch:

We had breakfast in the main restaurant aswell in the Marketplace which was of a great quality each morning with lots to choose from. We had lunch on the same base as our breakfast so in both the restaurants aswell in the Marketplace. Quality and service was great both ways.

We choose only speciality restaurants for our dinner to see the difference from the main restaurants:

We tried the Sushi restaurant, The Tapas Bar and offcourse the signature steak restaurant Butchers Cut. All restaurants were well worth the extra money, altough it was our impression that Butchers Cut was a little bit pricey.

As final I would like to give my personal opinion after 58 cruises on several lines.
After this first real experience with MSC Cruises I would like to state that they have a place among the big four being NCL, RCI, Costa and Carnival. If you add the cruise fare payed with your experience that makes that MSC Cruises much better for a family or the general cruise passenger. Just because the value for money is way better than when you compare MSC with NCL or RCI. Truth is we never experienced Carnival.
