Pamplemousses Botanical Garden
The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is one of the oldest Botanical Garden in the southern hemisphere and dates back to 1736. Some of the plant species introduced during this historical period are still present in the Spice Corner of the Garden.
The Garden also has an animal corner, a unique concept for a botanical garden, where visitors can spot deer, tortoises and other creatures. The animal corner boasts several bird species, including parrots, ducks and the Madagascar Moorhen. Within the ponds, several aquatic animals, such as turtles, fish and eels, can be observed swimming through the water. Bats, which are Mauritius’s only endemic mammal, can also be spotted hanging from the treetops during the day.
