Heritage Expeditions was founded in 1984 with the aim of promoting awareness and conservation of nature through responsible expedition travel. Founded by Rodney and Shirley Russ, the company has deep roots in environmental commitment: Rodney, a biologist with the New Zealand Wildlife Service, dedicated his career to studying endangered species such as the Kakapo and the Chatham Island Black Robin. His vision was clear: protecting nature does not mean isolating it, but sharing it with those who, by visiting, can become true ambassadors for the protection of these fragile environments. For Rodney, conservation and responsible tourism are two sides of the same coin, capable together of achieving unimaginable results.
The company operates vessels that take travelers to some of the most pristine and remote destinations on the planet, such as the Ross Sea in the heart of Antarctica, the Subantarctic Islands of New Zealand and Australia, the archipelago of Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, the Philippines, the famous Kimberley coast of Australia, and the stunning coasts of New Zealand, including Fiordland, Stewart Island, and Marlborough Sounds. Each cruise is carefully planned and led by experts to ensure participants have a rich learning and discovery experience with minimal environmental impact.
