Havila Voyages is a family-owned Norwegian shipping company that has revolutionized the concept of travel along the legendary Norwegian Coastal Express route from Bergen to Kirkenes, active for over 130 years. Founded in 2021 as part of the Havila Group, it was born from the vision of Per Sævik, a maritime entrepreneur with a deep connection to the sea and coastal traditions. His dream was clear: to offer a new generation of cruises that are environmentally friendly and deeply rooted in Norwegian culture.
At the heart of Havila Voyages’ philosophy is respect for Norwegian nature, seen as a heritage to protect for future generations. The company’s next-generation ships are the most eco-friendly on the route: they are equipped with the largest battery pack ever installed on a passenger ship, allowing for up to four hours of zero-emission sailing, even in sensitive areas like the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The batteries are charged with clean hydropower, and when not in use, the ships run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which reduces CO₂ emissions by 35% and NOx emissions by 90%. Energy efficiency is further enhanced through an advanced hull design and onboard heat recovery systems.
But Havila is not only about sustainability – it also stands for comfort and authenticity. The ships are designed to accommodate fewer than 650 passengers, offering a relaxed and spacious travel experience. Each cabin is modern and bright, with large windows or balconies to admire the breathtaking views of the Norwegian coast. Gastronomy is another highlight: Havila collaborates with local producers to offer seasonal and regional dishes, supporting the development of the communities it visits. There are no buffets – meals are served at the table to reduce food waste.
