Swan Hellenic: New Expedition Cruises to Africa

Swan Hellenic has announced its cultural expedition cruises to Africa for 2023, offering inquisitive explorers 9 extraordinary cultural expedition cruises between March and November 2023, with voyages ranging from 8 to 14 days on the new elegant 5-star ships SH Diana and SH Vega.

Guests travelling along the coast of Africa are accompanied by world-renowned experts and experienced expedition guides, leading to surprising discoveries and in-depth explorations of worlds not even visited by specialist operators.

SH Vega will follow the west coast of Africa northwards to the Arctic, offering 4 cultural expedition cruises: “Safaris of the Southwest Coast” from Cape Town to Luanda for 10 days; “Unspoilt Wilds of Southwest Africa” from Luanda to Accra for 14 days; “Cultural Crucibles of West Africa” from Accra to Dakar for 14 days; and “Volcanic Cultures of Africa’s Atlantic Islands” from Dakar to Santa Cruz de Tenerife for 9 days.

The attractions at these destinations are diverse and unique, but highlights include Loango National Park in Gabon, home to lowland gorillas and surfing hippos, and Conkouati-Douli National Park in Republic of Congo, where you can see chimpanzees in their natural habitat and visit the sanctuary that rescues these primates from the wildlife trade and reintroduces them to the wild.

SH Diana, on the other hand, will sail south along the northern and eastern coasts between August and November, offering five cultural cruises: “Mysteries of Carthage and the Moors” from Lisbon to Palermo in 11 days; “Revelations of Suez, Sinai and the Red Sea” from Limassol to Jeddah in 13 days; “Paradise Islands of the Indian Ocean” from Port Victoria to Mombasa in 12 days; “Madagascar and its Eastern Islands” from Mombasa to Maputo in 11 days; and “Extraordinary Southern Africa” from Maputo to Cape Town in 8 days.

Highlights include Medina, the holy city of Islam; the famous Nabataean pink sandstone city of Petra; and the lush island of Pemba, home to fruit-eating flying megabats and unforgettable snorkeling.

“We are thrilled to offer these special new opportunities for the discerning explorer”, said Patrizia Iantorno, Vice President of Global Marketing for Swan Hellenic. “Our expertly designed Africa cruises mark the beginning of a new era of cultural expedition cruising around the world.”

Daisy-chaining is, as always, a Swan Hellenic option, in this case combined with Mediterranean Cultural Expedition cruises to create an extraordinary odyssey of great civilizations.
