Swan Hellenic: Journeys in South and Central America

Swan Hellenic, a pioneer in cultural expedition travel, has announced a series of six exclusive journeys along the western coast of South America and through the Panama Canal to the Caribbean between February and May 2024 aboard SH Diana, its largest Scandinavian-designed boutique ship, capable of accommodating 192 guests in distinctive comfort and style.

To kick off this series of journeys, the itinerary “In the Wake of the HMS Beagle through the Chilean Fjords” will be featured, a 13-night cruise on a historic route northwest to the Chilean fjords, departing on February 25, 2024, from Ushuaia and arriving in Valparaiso. The cruise allows travelers to immerse themselves in the pristine nature of the Chilean fjords and admire impressive glaciers, including the massive Garibaldi and Pio XI. For those who prefer to explore some of the driest places in the world, they can opt for the 9-night itinerary “Natural Wonders of the Atacama and Paracas Desert,” departing from Valparaiso on March 9, 2024.

If exploring the famous adobe brick pyramids of the pre-Inca Moche civilization in Trujillo is on a traveler’s wishlist, they can set sail from Callao to Panama City on March 18, 2024, with the nine-night journey “Cultures of Northern Peru and Biodiversity,” offering the opportunity to meet indigenous tribes and experience the deep wilderness of Utria and Darien Jungle national parks. For archaeology enthusiasts, the perfect itinerary is the “Central America Discovery,” departing on April 10, 2024, from La Paz, Mexico, to Puntarenas, Costa Rica, for a 10-night journey focused on whale watching and incredible archaeology, including the recent discovery of La Joya del Ceren, the Pompeii of the Maya, hidden beneath a volcanic eruption.

The “Costa Rica & Panama Canal Discovery,” a 10-night cruise, will depart from Puntarenas on April 20, 2024, reaching the UNESCO World Heritage city famous for its colonial fortifications, architecture, and rich history—Cartagena in Colombia. During this journey, passengers can discover the national parks of Costa Rica, uninhabited islands, and Darien Jungle National Park. The last cruise in the series, “Tropical Charms of the Caribbean and Beyond,” will set sail from Cartagena on April 30, 2024, for a 10-night exploration of these fabulous islands, from the whales and national parks of Samana to San Salvador, where Columbus landed, and the exquisite Compass Cay in Exuma, with its charming bathing pools.

Andrea Zito, CEO of Swan Hellenic, stated, “We are truly excited about the fantastic American itineraries our experts have curated for 2024, enriched with new and exciting destinations. Exploring history, culture, and nature in equal depth is proving very appealing. Anyone passionate about the region should book without hesitation.”

Moreover, it will be possible to combine these incredible cultural expedition journeys to create unique and personalized exploration experiences.
