Onboard wellness has become one of the key elements of a cruise holiday: following this trend, the improvements carried out by Norwegian Cruise Line on Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem introduce new wellness spaces and exclusive areas designed to make time spent onboard even more enjoyable.
If until a few years ago the choice of a ship was mainly based on itineraries and destinations, today many travellers also carefully consider the quality of onboard services, spaces dedicated to relaxation and experiences that allow them to take care of themselves during the journey.
The new features mainly concern the Mandara Spa & Salon, which has always been one of the fleet's reference points for those looking to enjoy a rejuvenating break while sailing, but they also extend to the outdoor areas with the arrival of the Vibe Beach Club, an area reserved exclusively for adults.
A Spa Redesigned for Relaxation
The renovation of the Thermal Suite represents one of the most significant improvements. The area has been completely redesigned to offer a more comprehensive wellness experience, with a more functional layout and environments that encourage relaxation from beginning to end.
Among the first new features is the increased number of Hot Tile Loungers, the distinctive heated mosaic loungers that allow guests to relax their muscles by taking advantage of gentle, evenly distributed heat. The number of these loungers has been tripled, allowing more guests to enjoy one of the spa's most appreciated features.
The reception area has also been redesigned to make access to treatments easier, while the saunas and steam rooms have been completely renovated, helping to create a more modern and welcoming environment.
The goal is to transform the spa into a true refuge from the pace of life onboard, a space where guests can dedicate a few hours exclusively to their wellbeing, alternating between different treatments and sensory experiences.
A Journey Through Heat, Cold and Natural Aromas
The new Thermal Suite features a series of environments inspired by leading international wellness centres, based on the alternation of temperatures and sensory stimuli.
Among the new features is the Charcoal Sauna, a sauna that uses a special heating system with an outer layer of charcoal. The radiated heat promotes muscle relaxation and helps create a pleasant feeling of wellbeing after a day spent on excursions or taking part in sports activities.
Next to the sauna is the Ice Room, a room characterised by very low temperatures where guests can experience thermal contrast after the heat of the sauna or steam room. This transition is particularly appreciated in wellness experiences because it provides a refreshing sensation and helps reactivate circulation.
The experience is completed by the Salt Room, an environment inspired by traditional salt caves, where soft lighting and a quiet atmosphere encourage relaxation. The presence of salt also helps create a pleasant microclimate, ideal for enjoying a rejuvenating break during the day.
The new facilities also include Four-Senses Loungers, ergonomic loungers designed to provide a multisensory experience through a combination of heated surfaces, enveloping shapes and an especially peaceful environment. They are the ideal place to relax after a massage or simply watch the sea in complete silence.
Mandara Spa also continues to offer an extensive programme of massages, facial and body treatments, beauty rituals and personalised experiences combining Eastern and Western techniques. Among the newly introduced services is an IV Lounge dedicated to vitamin infusions, an offering that is becoming increasingly common in high-end hotels.
Different Experiences on Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem
Although the two ships share most of the new features, they each have some specific characteristics.
On Norwegian Jade, the wellness experience is enhanced by the new Sensory Showers, which alternate different water jets, temperatures and lighting effects to stimulate the senses and encourage relaxation. There is also a Plunge Pool, a cold-water pool designed for immersion after using the sauna and steam room, a practice that helps revitalise the body and support muscle recovery.
Norwegian Gem, on the other hand, features a renovated Thalassotherapy Pool, a pool dedicated to hydrotherapy that uses massage jets, ergonomic seating and water currents to relieve muscle tension and provide a pleasant feeling of lightness. The hot tub has also been upgraded, further expanding the relaxation offering.
Vibe Beach Club, an Exclusive Space for Adults
One of the most interesting new features is also the Vibe Beach Club, an outdoor area accessible exclusively to adult guests through a dedicated pass.
Located on the upper deck, this space is designed for those who want to enjoy their time at sea in a quieter setting than the traditional pool areas. Limited access guarantees a relaxed atmosphere and greater availability of services, making it particularly appealing to couples and travellers looking for privacy.
The Vibe Beach Club offers more than fifty premium loungers, a dedicated hot tub, seven private cabanas available for reservation and a full-service bar where guests can enjoy cocktails, beverages and snacks without leaving their spot. The panoramic ocean views and spacious sunbathing areas help transform this space into one of the most exclusive areas of the ship.
More Comfort in the Common Areas
The new features also extend to everyday life onboard. On Norwegian Jade, a new Starbucks outlet has opened, where guests can find the same hot and cold beverages, as well as snacks, available at the chain's traditional locations. The service further expands the possibilities for customising the cruise experience and adds to the ship's already extensive dining offering.
Overall, the improvements carried out on Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem confirm the evolution of cruising towards a model increasingly focused on wellbeing and the quality of the experience. The new Mandara Spa areas, the private spaces of the Vibe Beach Club and the additional services allow guests to alternate excursions and onboard activities with moments dedicated exclusively to relaxation.
For those who choose a cruise not only as an opportunity to visit new destinations, but also to slow down and set aside some time for themselves, these new features help make Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem even more complete ships, capable of offering a travel experience in which comfort, wellbeing and the quality of the spaces play an increasingly central role.
