Viking Annar and Viking Fjolvar have been delivered to Viking. Both ships were built at Meyer’s Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde, further expanding Viking’s award-winning European river fleet.
With a capacity of 190 guests, Viking Annar will sail itineraries along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. Viking Fjolvar, meanwhile, will operate on the Seine, docking at Viking’s exclusive mooring facility in the heart of Paris.
Leah Talactac, President and CEO of Viking, expressed her pride in welcoming Viking Annar and Viking Fjolvar to the company’s growing river fleet. River exploration, she noted, offers an unparalleled way to discover the history, culture and local life of the destinations along the waterways, and these new ships will enable even more travelers to experience Europe with Viking’s signature comfort.
Viking Annar was purpose-built to sail the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. Featuring an elegant Scandinavian design, the ship offers 95 staterooms and includes an organic herb garden. In Norse mythology, Annar is a figure associated with the earth and is often considered the second husband of the giantess Nótt (Night) and the father of Jörð (Earth), who is also the mother of Thor.
Among the itineraries operated by Viking Annar are Rhine Getaway, Passage to Eastern Europe, Grand European Tour, European Sojourn and Christmas on the Rhine.
One of the ships’ most innovative features is Viking’s patented square bow design, which allows the vessel to accommodate three full decks and an indoor-outdoor Aquavit Terrace, as well as asymmetrical corridors that enable Viking to offer genuine two-room suites.
Viking Fjolvar can accommodate 168 guests in 84 staterooms. According to Norse mythology, Fjölvar was believed to be a jötunn, a supernatural giant who spent time training and fighting alongside Odin, the god of wisdom and war, on the island of Algrœn.
The ship was purpose-built to sail the Seine and dock at Viking’s exclusive mooring facility in Paris. It features the same distinctive design elements as Viking’s Longships, combined with luxurious accommodations, and will operate round-trip itineraries from Paris along the Seine, including Paris & the Heart of Normandy and a new Christmas itinerary.
Both new ships feature solar panels and environmentally friendly hybrid engines designed to reduce vibrations and provide a smoother sailing experience.
Viking continues to demonstrate strong growth, underpinned by a consistent, long-term strategy. The company has ordered 22 additional river ships for delivery by 2028, nine ocean ships by 2031 and two expedition ships by 2031. By 2028, Viking’s fleet will therefore comprise 114 river ships.
Viking has received more than 450 awards, including being named the No. 1 River and No. 1 Ocean cruise line for five consecutive years in the 2025 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. The company’s extensive experience continues to strengthen its position in the market, while the addition of these new ships further expands its offering across Europe and beyond.
