Oceania Sonata: A New Era of Luxury at Sea Begins

Oceania Cruises has officially unveiled Oceania Sonata, the ship that will inaugurate the highly anticipated Sonata Class, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s history.

With this project, Oceania Cruises opens a new chapter defined by refined design, timeless elegance, and culinary excellence—anticipating a future in which traveling by sea becomes an even more intimate, immersive, and memorable experience. The debut is scheduled for August 2027, with the ship poised to redefine contemporary luxury cruising standards.

Oceania Sonata will be the first of four next-generation ships, each accommodating 1,390 guests and featuring a completely renewed design conceived to offer spacious, bright, and welcoming environments. Currently under construction at Fincantieri— the renowned Italian shipyard behind Marina, Riviera, Vista, and Allura—the ship will become the ninth jewel in the Oceania fleet, reaffirming the brand’s strategy of merging innovation with tradition.

With a gross tonnage of approximately 86,000 and a crew of 855, Oceania Sonata promises an exceptional guest-to-service ratio. But beyond the numbers, it is the philosophy driving the project that stands out: creating a space where natural light, absolute comfort, and elegant atmospheres coexist harmoniously, offering guests a true sense of well-being and freedom on board.

Thirty percent of accommodations will consist of suites, including two entirely new categories as well as the iconic Owner’s Suites, redesigned to deliver an unprecedented level of comfort and sophistication. All staterooms, regardless of category, will feature a private veranda, ensuring a constant connection with ever-changing horizons and a more personal, immersive cruising experience.

Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, emphasized that Oceania Sonata represents the future of the brand—built on a passion for signature cuisine, impeccable service, and fully immersive travel experiences. Montague noted that each new ship provides an opportunity to further refine the onboard experience and that many more details will be revealed in the months ahead, heightening anticipation among enthusiasts.

Culinary tradition, long the hallmark of Oceania Cruises, will remain front and center in the Sonata Class. Oceania Sonata will feature ten exceptional dining experiences, combining guests’ favorite restaurants with new, exclusive concepts created specifically for this new generation of ships. In addition, the line has hinted at the introduction of entirely new dining venues and spaces, never before seen in the cruise world, set to further elevate industry standards and captivate even the most seasoned travelers.

Oceania Cruises, already renowned for its culinary excellence and destination-focused approach, with a fleet of eight small, luxurious ships carrying up to 1,250 guests, The Finest Cuisine at Sea®, and destination-rich itineraries spanning more than 600 marquee and boutique ports across over 100 countries and all seven continents—now strengthens its leadership with Oceania Sonata.

This new ship, the first in the Sonata Class, ushers in an even more refined chapter, expanding the brand’s offerings in luxury, comfort, and immersive experiences, and reaffirming Oceania’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and ever more personalized, memorable voyages. The subsequent Sonata Class ships, scheduled for delivery in 2029, 2032, and 2035, will continue to raise the bar, reinforcing Oceania Cruises’ reputation as a global benchmark for high-end luxury cruising.
