Monfalcone: TUI Cruises’ New Green Ship Launched

On May 30th, at the historic Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, the Mein Schiff Flow was officially launched. This vessel is the second next-generation cruise ship commissioned by TUI Cruises and is the sister ship of Mein Schiff Relax, which was delivered last February. The launch marks another significant step toward a cruise industry that is increasingly sustainable and technologically advanced.

Born from the collaboration between Fincantieri and TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises, Mein Schiff Flow represents the new frontier of naval innovation. The vessel features a design focused on environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. With a gross tonnage of approximately 160,000, it belongs to the InTUItion class, based on an entirely new concept developed by Fincantieri to meet the most recent international environmental standards.

Mein Schiff Flow is a dual-fuel ship, capable of operating on both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Marine Gas Oil (MGO), and more importantly, it is future-proof—designed to use low-emission alternative fuels such as bio-LNG or e-LNG. This makes it a strategic asset in the pursuit of climate-neutral cruising.

Onboard, numerous advanced technologies aim to minimize environmental impact: Euro 6-compliant catalytic converters, a steam turbine that recovers residual heat from the diesel generators, and a shore power system that eliminates emissions during port stays, which account for around 40% of the ship’s operational time. Also noteworthy is the innovative waste treatment system, capable of transforming organic waste into recyclable components through an advanced thermal process.

Beyond sustainability, the ship’s design also emphasizes comfort and guest well-being, fully aligned with TUI Cruises’ “premium casual” philosophy—aimed at offering a relaxed, modern, and mindful travel experience.

The launch ceremony was attended by key industry figures: Daniele Fanara, Director of New Building and After Sales of Fincantieri’s Merchant Ships Division; Cristiano Bazzara, Director of the Monfalcone shipyard; and Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises.

With the launch of Mein Schiff Flow, Fincantieri reaffirms its role as a leader in the construction of cutting-edge cruise ships and actively contributes to the maritime sector’s green transition. Scheduled to enter service in mid-2026, the vessel not only strengthens the partnership with TUI Cruises but also marks a crucial milestone toward a more responsible, efficient, and environmentally friendly cruise industry.
