AmaWaterways Launches AmaSintra

AmaWaterways has officially launched its newest ship, AmaSintra, celebrating its christening and maiden voyage along Portugal’s enchanting Douro River.

This new vessel further strengthens AmaWaterways’ presence in Europe, offering travelers an exclusive experience on one of the world’s most iconic rivers. Kristin Karst, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Ambassador of AmaWaterways, expressed great excitement about the ship’s debut, highlighting how AmaSintra offers guests more opportunities to explore the captivating Douro region. She emphasized that Portugal is becoming an increasingly popular destination for river cruises and that AmaSintra will provide a memorable experience for all guests. She also noted that sailings, scheduled from March through December, will allow travelers to comfortably explore this extraordinary part of the world.

AmaSintra accommodates just 102 guests, ensuring an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The ship features 51 elegantly appointed staterooms, most of which include private balconies or full-height panoramic windows, offering breathtaking river views directly from each room. Among the shared spaces, guests can enjoy a Sun Deck with a pool, a well-equipped fitness center, and a main restaurant serving locally inspired cuisine alongside international dishes.

The official christening ceremony was held in Porto on April 17, 2025, with Jenn Lee, President of Vacation Planners, serving as godmother of AmaSintra. The ceremony was also attended by Rudi Schreiner, Co-Founder and CEO of AmaWaterways, and Kristin Karst.

Kristin Karst remarked that Jenn Lee is a true source of inspiration for women in the travel industry and a prominent leader whose influence continues to shape its future. She underscored that Lee’s dedication and professionalism perfectly reflect the core values of AmaWaterways, expressing pride in naming her godmother of the new Douro vessel.

Jenn Lee stated that being part of this important milestone for AmaWaterways was a true honor. She noted that AmaSintra’s attention to detail represents the very essence of river cruising—intimate experiences, meaningful connections, and the chance to explore the world with comfort and style.

AmaSintra will primarily sail the “Enticing Douro” itinerary, a seven-night journey that takes guests through some of the most scenic and culturally rich regions of Portugal and Spain. During the cruise, passengers will have the opportunity to visit renowned vineyards, sample local wines, and discover charming cities such as Porto, Régua, and Salamanca. A pre-cruise three-night land package in Lisbon is also available, offering an even more complete experience.

With AmaSintra, AmaWaterways expands its Douro fleet, joining the existing AmaDouro and AmaVida, further enhancing opportunities to explore the cultural and natural heritage of this remarkable region. AmaWaterways, now in its 23rd year of operation, boasts a fleet of 31 custom-designed ships sailing the world’s major rivers—including the Danube, Rhine, Mekong, Chobe, Nile, and Magdalena. The company has earned numerous awards and accolades, such as “Best River Cruise Line” by Cruise Critic, thanks to its attentive service, state-of-the-art ships, wellness offerings, included excursions, and high-quality local cuisine. AmaWaterways’ modern and spacious vessels, with an average of 150 guests, offer exclusive amenities such as elegant lounges, specialty restaurants, spas, walking tracks on the Sun Deck, and heated pools with swim-up bars. The company is known for its constant innovation, as demonstrated by the launch of the revolutionary AmaMagna.
