Albatros Expeditions: Ocean Albatros keel laid

Expedition cruise company Albatros Expeditions celebrated the laying of the keel for the Ocean Albatros, the sixth Infinity-class ship built by SunStone.

The ceremony was held at China Merchant Heavy Industries in Haimen, where the construction of the ship that will represent the second unit in service for Albatros Expeditions starting from March 2023 is now proceeding.

The two units, owned by SunStone, are long-term chartered by the company specializing in expedition cruises to Arctic and Antarctica. On the occasion, new managerial roles were also announced, with the addition of Greg Carter, a figure with long experience in the sector, and Sebastian Arnoldus.

The new construction, Ocean Albatros, will implement the offer of itineraries in Antarctica and the Arctic, providing one of the most advanced ships in the segment. Three restaurants, a wellness area, the beautiful Albatros Nordic Bar, an open deck catering facility, a modern conference room are just some of the spaces on board. Compared to its sister ship Ocean Victory, the new unit will also offer a panoramic sauna and 12 cabins dedicated to solo travelers.

By following the Green Initiative program, Ocean Albatros will also guarantee excellent environmental standards, ensuring comfort and stability without sacrificing low emissions and environmental protection. Sustainability, therefore, but also tenacity and resilience, in the words expressed by Chief Commercial Officer Greg Carter, who reiterated the effort made in the last two years in tackling the pandemic crisis.

Ocean Albatros will measure 104 meters long by 18 wide with 93 cabins of different categories. Built with the most modern technologies available and the highest Ice Class, she stands out for the characteristic “X-Bow” designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions.

All that remains is to wait until 2023 to see the second unit of Albatros Expeditions at sea, a company that offers expedition itineraries among the most interesting and in the total comfort of the latest generation of ships.
