Viking: a new ship for the Mekong

Viking Cruises has introduced Viking Tonle, announcing the expansion of its river fleet in Southeast Asia. The vessel, currently under construction, is set to debut in October 2025.

Joining its sister ship, Viking Saigon, which entered service in 2022, Viking Tonle will sail between Kampong Cham, Cambodia, and Mỹ Tho, Vietnam, as part of the popular Magnificent Mekong itinerary. To meet the strong demand for Mekong River travel, Viking has added navigation dates in 2025 and opened reservations for the entire 2026 season.

“The rich history and culture of Vietnam and Cambodia have always made the Mekong River an intriguing destination for our guests,” stated Torstein Hagen, President of Viking. “With the addition of a sister ship in 2025, we look forward to leading the most curious travelers to explore the treasures of this fantastic region in the years to come.”

Designed for the Mekong River, Viking Tonle can accommodate up to 80 passengers in 40 exterior cabins, all featuring the Scandinavian design for which Viking is known. The cabins are equipped with hotel-style beds and full glass sliding doors leading to a veranda or French balcony. Guests will also enjoy a spa and fitness center, a pool, and an outdoor sky bar on the upper deck.

During the 15-day journey, “Magnificent Mekong,” guests explore the cultural treasures of Vietnam and Cambodia through 16 guided tours. Eight-day river travel includes stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap, and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), allowing guests to explore Hanoi’s historic center, witness an Apsara dancer performance, taste fresh ingredients from vibrant markets and local restaurants, wander through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor Wat, visit Ta Prohm with jungle vines embracing ancient ruins, and explore the attractions of Phnom Penh. During the river portion of the itinerary, guests will discover silk cities, fishing villages, monasteries, and floating markets.
