Scenic: Between legendary islands and tropical wonders

There is a place in the world where nature remains untamed, the sea displays endless shades of blue, and local cultures preserve traditions passed down through centuries. It is the South Pacific, an archipelago of emotions stretching across New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and Fiji.

The South Pacific Discovery: Norfolk, New Caledonia & Fiji itinerary, departing in March 2026 aboard the luxurious Scenic Eclipse II, is an invitation to experience eleven days of discovery, striking the perfect balance between adventure and wellness, exploration and absolute comfort. Tropical landscapes, spectacular bays, remote villages, and welcoming communities are intertwined with moments of relaxation at sea, gourmet tastings, marine activities, and exclusive cultural tours curated by Scenic. Each day offers the opportunity to create your own journey, choosing from a wide range of Scenic Freechoice, Scenic Enrich, and Scenic Discovery experiences, always accompanied by the expertise of the crew and Discovery Team.

The journey begins in Auckland, an elegant and vibrant metropolis of New Zealand. Its two expansive bays frame museums rich in history, contemporary art galleries, and local design boutiques. After arriving in the city and strolling through modern neighborhoods and trendy cafés, boarding the Scenic Eclipse II marks the official start of the adventure.

The first wonder appears at dawn on the second day: the Bay of Islands. A subtropical paradise with 150 islands and sparkling bays under the sun. Here, travelers can choose from a wide range of Scenic Freechoice experiences. They can join the Northland Maori Waka Encounter, a traditional Maori war canoe outing accompanied by ancestral stories and a visit to Haruru Falls. Alternatively, they can explore the glowworm-lit Kawiti Caves, walk through the Puketi Kauri Forest, or enjoy a cruise with lunch among the islands, admiring Roberton Island, Cape Brett, and the famous Hole in the Rock. For those seeking a day at sea, the Bay of Islands Getaway Cruise offers snorkeling, swimming, and wildlife spotting. Completing the experience is the Scenic Enrich Maori Culture & Marae Experience, which takes guests to a traditional marae for an immersive insight into the local community’s culture and stories.

The voyage also offers precious moments to enjoy life on board, such as the Senses Spa with sauna, Turkish bath, KLAFS salt room, panoramic pools, relaxation areas, and exclusive restaurants ranging from sushi to fine international dining. The onboard atmosphere encourages slowing down, observing the ocean from the Observation Lounge, and indulging in all-inclusive services.

Continuing on to Norfolk Island, the horizon is filled with towering pines and dramatic cliffs. This remote territory, once a penal colony and later a refuge for the descendants of the Bounty mutineers, today retains an extraordinary historic charm. Here too, Scenic offers a rich selection of Freechoice experiences: from the Half-Day Extravaganza through Kingston, Cascade, and Longridge, to the tour dedicated to the historic Kingston site, and the Behind the Scenes experience, which allows guests to meet local artisans, taste traditional products, and discover the daily life of the island’s residents. Nature lovers can opt for the Bush Walk Adventure, with walks through palm forests or panoramic climbs up Mount Bates and the Captain Cook monument.

Arrival at Lifou, in New Caledonia’s Loyalty Islands, opens a new chapter of the journey. Here, nature is powerful: fossil coral cliffs, tropical forests, vanilla plantations, and white sand beaches. Scenic Freechoice experiences offer insights into Kanak culture through guided village visits, encounters with local “mamas,” and participation in preparing bougna, a traditional dish cooked in an underground oven. For nature enthusiasts, the Cliffs of Jokin tour takes guests through fragrant forests and breathtaking landscapes, while the Tropical Forest & Secret Grotto invites exploration of hidden caves and demonstrations of Melanesian hunting techniques.

Upon reaching Vanuatu, the silhouette of Yasur volcano can be seen from afar. Tanna Island welcomes visitors with songs, dances, and the smiles of the local community. The Island Welcome option provides an immersive cultural introduction, while the Island Welcome & Volcano Tour allows guests to reach the rim of Yasur crater, one of the most accessible active volcanoes in the world: a thrilling experience as the lava illuminates the sky with reddish glows.

Fiji appears on the horizon with Port Denarau, an elegant marina blending boutiques, restaurants, a golf club, and a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Scenic Freechoice activities are numerous and diverse. Guests can visit a traditional colonial house surrounded by an orchid garden, explore Nadi market full of colors and aromas, or venture into the hills of Nausori in a 4WD through villages, kava ceremonies, and Hindu temples. Golf enthusiasts can challenge themselves on the par-72 Denarau Golf Club course, while those who love the sea can enjoy a half-day fishing excursion in search of tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo, and trevally.

The following day, guests reach a small island in the Mamanuca group, where pristine white beaches and turquoise waters offer serenity and authenticity. Local traditions come to life during kava ceremonies, dances, and village visits, including the local school. Nearby Monuriki Island, made famous by the film Cast Away starring Tom Hanks, provides the perfect setting for swimming and snorkeling. Through the Scenic Discovery program, weather permitting, guests can access the ship’s marina and use equipment such as paddleboards, kayaks, and snorkeling gear, always supported by the Discovery Team. The journey concludes in Lautoka, a town surrounded by sugarcane plantations and lush green mountains.

South Pacific Discovery is an itinerary that combines the magic of remote islands, the charm of Oceanic cultures, and the uncompromising comfort of the Scenic Eclipse II. It is a mosaic of customizable experiences through numerous Scenic Freechoice, Enrich, and Discovery options, allowing each traveler to create their own story in the heart of the South Pacific.
