Greg Mortimer: exploring the Arctic Circle

On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, Aurora Expeditions has decided to offer a unique and exciting opportunity to immerse itself in the beauty and majesty of the Arctic, accompanied by one of the world’s greatest explorers, Greg Mortimer.

A pioneer in polar expeditions, Aurora Expeditions is firmly committed to environmentally friendly travel and could not fail to choose its ship Greg Mortimer to honor and host on board the explorer of the same name who will enrich the 15-day expedition across the Arctic Circle.

On May 16, 2023, this special Founder’s Expedition will set sail from Aberdeen to the remote Orkney and Shetland Islands. It will continue along the magnificent Norwegian coast to explore the ice of Bear Island and Svalbard, ending the sailing in Longyearbyen on May 30.

“I look forward to bathing once again in that exquisite Arctic light. It’s been a while but this time it will be even more surreal to be on a ship with my name on it. I look forward to seeing you there,” said Greg Mortimer.

Passengers will find themselves catapulted into history starting from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, visiting different peoples from the Scots to the Vikings. They will be enchanted by the wildlife: whales, polar bears, walruses, and various bird species. Greg Mortimer’s then 30 years of experience will unearth the wonderful naturalistic treasures little known to many.

“We are thrilled that Greg is leading this fascinating journey in the Arctic. He is an inspiration to all who travel with him,” said CEO Michael Heath.

The expedition across the Arctic Circle will include overnight accommodations with private bath and breakfast before the expeditions, all meals during the trip, and all shore excursions and Zodiac cruises. Sea kayaking and scuba diving activities will remain optional.
