United Waterways and JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs have announced a strategic partnership aimed at elevating hospitality standards within the global river cruise sector while supporting the growth of the next generation of culinary talent on board.
United by shared values of integrity, quality, sustainability, and long-term collaboration, the two organisations seek to create a synergy in which the overall value is greater than the sum of its parts. This partnership brings together the network of more than 400 JRE restaurants with the international maritime platform of United Waterways, which manages over 120 vessels worldwide and supports more than 50 brands operating on inland waterways and ocean routes.

Stefan Bloch, COO of United Waterways, highlighted that the collaboration with JRE significantly and sustainably strengthens the company’s culinary profile by connecting talent development, craftsmanship, and established brands around a shared goal: delivering exceptional guest experiences while creating genuine opportunities for the next generation of chefs.
At the heart of the partnership lies a strong commitment to supporting young culinary talent and celebrating the unique gastronomic identity of different regions. Through this collaboration, young chefs working aboard United Waterways vessels will have the opportunity to engage with the expertise, guidance, and inspiration of JRE chefs, opening new paths for professional growth, creativity, and continuous learning. At the same time, guests will enjoy authentic, high-quality dishes that reflect the cultural and culinary richness of the rivers and European cities visited during their cruises.
JRE chefs will create recipes inspired by regional culinary traditions, representing the gastronomic identity of some of Europe’s most important waterways, including the Elbe, Rhine, Moselle, Danube, Douro, Seine, and Garonne. Designed to meet onboard operational standards, these dishes will contribute to making the guest experience even more immersive and rewarding.
In addition, participating United Waterways vessels will feature a co-branded culinary guide highlighting JRE member restaurants located along the cruise routes. Guests will have access to carefully selected recommendations, creating a connection between the gastronomic experiences enjoyed on board and equally memorable culinary discoveries ashore.
Nicolai P. Wiedmer, Vice President of JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs, stated that the partnership with United Waterways provides an opportunity to bring a passion for culinary excellence to travellers exploring Europe’s most iconic rivers. He emphasised that the collaboration offers emerging chefs unique opportunities to develop their skills and share their creativity, while ensuring guests enjoy unforgettable dining experiences both on board and ashore.

By combining JRE’s culinary expertise with United Waterways’ operational excellence, the partnership aims to raise global standards across gastronomy, hospitality, and tourism. Through structured talent development programmes, targeted guest engagement initiatives, and international brand activities, both organisations reaffirm their commitment to excellence, integrity, and sustainable growth.
The collaboration will also extend to Japan, in partnership with Mitsukoshi Isetan Nikko Travel, Ltd., United Waterways’ partner in the Japanese cruise market. Selected elements of the JRE collaboration will contribute to creating refined culinary moments on board, blending European regional cuisine with the expectations of an international audience and enhancing the overall guest experience through quality, craftsmanship, and culinary storytelling.
