Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled the first images of Great Tides Waterpark, the new attraction set to debut on its private island of Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. Scheduled to officially open on Sept. 4, 2026, the nearly six-acre waterpark represents the latest phase of the cruise line's investment in transforming its exclusive island destination into a more comprehensive experience for guests of all ages.
The grand opening celebration will take place during the Aug. 29, 2026 Caribbean sailing of Norwegian Luna, marking the official launch of what the company describes as its largest and most ambitious water attraction to date.
Located on Great Stirrup Cay's 270-acre private island, Great Tides Waterpark combines high-thrill attractions with family-oriented experiences. Among its headline features are 19 waterslides, including The Great Slide, the Caribbean's only four-person body slide, and Tidal Tower, home to the Breakwater Blasters, dual Master Blaster water coasters that use high-pressure water jets to propel riders uphill before sending them through a series of drops and twists.
One of the park's signature attractions is The Wandering River, an interactive river experience that includes what Norwegian Cruise Line describes as the cruise industry's first immersive tunnel. Another standout area is Cliffside Cove, featuring what the company says are the industry's first cliff-jump attractions at a cruise destination, with jumps ranging from 10 to 15 feet above the water. Younger guests will have their own dedicated play area at Splash Cay, designed specifically for families with children.
The new waterpark is also accompanied by an expanded culinary offering. Guests will be able to choose from a variety of themed dining venues, including Low Tide Smoke, serving smoked barbecue specialties such as St. Louis-style pork riblets, chicken wings and barbecue nachos; Catch of the Cay, focusing on seafood dishes including shrimp rolls and fried shrimp baskets; and Tidal Treats, offering handcrafted desserts, bubble waffle sundaes and colorful soft-serve creations. Complimentary buffet-style dining will also be available within the waterpark.
Several new bars have been incorporated into the experience. The Grotto Bar, positioned beneath The Great Slide in Cliffside Cove, provides views of the cliff-jump area, while the Floataway Bar allows guests floating along The Wandering River to order beverages without leaving the water. Drinks remain included for eligible guests through Norwegian Cruise Line's Free at Sea unlimited beverage package.
The opening of Great Tides Waterpark coincides with another significant enhancement to Great Stirrup Cay: the completion of the island's new two-berth pier. The infrastructure improvement allows ships to dock directly alongside the island, eliminating the need for tender operations and giving guests more time ashore.
In addition to the new attractions, Norwegian Cruise Line continues to expand the island's premium experiences. Guests visiting Great Tides Waterpark can reserve private cabanas accommodating up to six people, with admission to the waterpark included. Adults seeking a quieter environment can purchase day access to the new Vibe Shore Club, an adults-only retreat featuring premium loungers and a private bar. Across the island, additional beachfront and poolside cabanas remain available, while Silver Cove continues to offer its upscale experience with a private beach, infinity pool, restaurant, luxury villas and spa facilities.
The latest additions reinforce Norwegian Cruise Line's broader strategy of enhancing its private island destination with a wider range of activities, dining venues and premium amenities, giving guests greater flexibility to tailor their day in port, whether they are looking for adrenaline-filled attractions, family activities or a more relaxing beach escape.
