With Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean brings a new generation of megaships to the Mediterranean, where size, technology, entertainment, and environmental awareness come together in a project designed to transform a cruise into a destination in its own right.
The third ship in the revolutionary Icon Class, following Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, Legend of the Seas was built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and made her debut in summer 2026 with itineraries in the Western Mediterranean. The ship measures approximately 250,800 gross tons, is 365 metres long, and can accommodate up to around 7,600 people.
Legend of the Seas is not simply a ship on which to spend a holiday, but a vast floating resort organised into eight distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own identity and experiences designed for different types of guests. Royal Caribbean has brought together some of the most spectacular features of the Icon Class aboard the new ship, creating a balance between large public spaces, family areas, entertainment, dining, and quieter environments.
Among the features that most characterise Legend of the Seas, The Pearl occupies a central position, not only physically but also within the ship's architectural concept. Located at the heart of the Royal Promenade, this enormous spherical structure spans three decks and represents one of the most spectacular artistic installations on board.
But The Pearl is more than just an impressive visual feature: it also has a structural function. The large steel sphere is, in fact, a fundamental element of the ship's architecture and helps support the structures of the decks above. Its presence has also allowed Royal Caribbean to completely rethink the Royal Promenade, introducing floor-to-ceiling glass surfaces for the first time and creating a much stronger connection between the interior of the ship and the sea.
As mentioned above, the Royal Promenade takes shape around The Pearl. One of the most iconic spaces in the Royal Caribbean universe, it stretches across Decks 5 and 6. On Legend of the Seas, this space is even larger and brighter, confirming its role as one of the ship's main meeting points. More than simply an indoor passageway, the Royal Promenade is designed as a true urban square at sea, where throughout the day guests can enjoy shopping, dining, entertainment, and the lively atmosphere of life on board.
Among the more casual offerings is Sorrento's, Royal Caribbean's signature pizza venue, serving a variety of pizzas throughout the day, including several more creative options. It is an ideal place for a quick meal or a late-night snack. For those who love music and want to take centre stage, there is Spotlight Karaoke, a dedicated karaoke venue where guests can choose from thousands of songs and perform on the main stage or use one of the private rooms. It is a simple and informal experience that turns guests themselves into the stars of the show.
Starbucks is also present, now a familiar feature on many ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. For a drink, guests can choose from several different venues, including the 1400 Lobby Bar, located directly on the Promenade and characterised by an elegant, contemporary atmosphere. The venue serves cocktails inspired by the history of shipbuilding, as well as offering an ocean-facing terrace.
One of the most interesting and distinctive spaces is Royal Railway – Legend Station, one of the new additions aboard Legend of the Seas. This immersive dining experience transforms dinner into a journey along the ancient Silk Routes. The culinary journey explores different cultures and destinations, travelling from China to India and continuing through Persia, Turkey, and Italy. What makes the experience particularly unique is therefore not only the food, but also the setting and storytelling that accompany each course.
For lovers of Italian cuisine, there is Giovanni's Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, one of the most recognisable restaurants in the Royal Caribbean fleet. The menu features traditional Italian dishes, from pasta and meat dishes to freshly prepared pizzas, accompanied by a selection of Italian wines.
Also located along the Promenade is Dueling Pianos, a live music concept built around audience interaction. Two pianists take turns on stage, performing well-known songs and taking requests from guests. The result is an informal and engaging show designed to involve the audience.
Another distinctive venue is The Pearl Café, located right next to the large installation that dominates the Promenade. It is an informal café where guests can stop for breakfast, a snack, or a break during the day, with an offering designed to fit naturally into the rhythm of life on board.
As evening falls, the Royal Promenade becomes even livelier thanks to Boleros, a venue dedicated to Latin music and rhythms. Cocktails such as mojitos and caipirinhas accompany live performances featuring salsa, merengue, samba, and other Latin American musical styles.
Completing the offering is Schooner Bar, one of Royal Caribbean's most iconic venues. With its nautical atmosphere and extensive use of wood, the space evokes the maritime world while offering live music and cocktails in a more intimate setting. The grand piano often becomes the centrepiece of the entertainment, particularly during the evening sing-alongs.
The variety of these venues allows the Royal Promenade to be experienced in many different ways. During the day, it is primarily a place for passing through, shopping, and dining; in the evening, however, it becomes one of the main centres of life on board, where music, shows, restaurants, and bars create an atmosphere reminiscent of a real city street.
The Royal Promenade undoubtedly represents the heart of this area of the ship, but Decks 5 and 6 extend far beyond its central area. At the aft of Deck 5 we find the Main Dining Room, the ship’s main restaurant. Spread across several levels, it is one of the most important dining venues on board and accompanies guests at different times of the day. In the morning, it can be the ideal setting for a hearty breakfast or brunch, while in the evening it offers a regularly changing menu featuring flavours inspired by different parts of the world. Moving towards the forward section, Deck 5 is also home to the Fitness Center, a dedicated space for exercise equipped with modern facilities and offering sea views that make working out part of the overall travel experience.
Also at the forward end is the Royal Theater, one of the main venues for live entertainment aboard Legend of the Seas. This is where Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is performed, the celebrated Broadway musical making its debut at sea on this very ship. The production brings Willy Wonka’s fantastical world to life through elaborate sets, costumes, music, visual effects, and the presence of the iconic Oompa Loompas. The show is made even more distinctive by the participation of a young actor in the cast, adding an especially engaging element to the production.
On Deck 6, aft, we find Adventure Ocean, the dedicated area for children and young guests. Royal Caribbean has redesigned this space with the aim of giving younger guests greater freedom, creating different environments where they can play, experiment, and socialise. Play Place, Workshop, and Arena offer a variety of activities, while Hangout provides a more relaxed space where children can spend time with their peers. Dedicated programmes are also available for younger age groups, including AO Babies and AO Junior. The idea is to create an environment where children can choose how they want to spend their time on board, within spaces specifically designed around their needs.
For teenagers aged 13 to 17, Social020 provides an exclusive space where they can spend time away from the areas dedicated to adults. Music, video games, films, foosball, and comfortable spaces to meet and socialise make this venue feel like a private lounge for teenagers.
Nearby, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade combines sports and entertainment in a lively setting. Numerous screens allow guests to follow sporting events while at sea, while the menu features casual favourites such as burgers, snacks, and desserts. The arcade area completes the offering, making Playmakers a popular meeting point for families and sports enthusiasts alike.
Also on Deck 6 is one of the ship’s most spectacular spaces: Absolute Zero. This large ice-skating arena hosts productions that combine sport, acrobatics, and technology. Athletes perform jumps, spins, and choreographed routines on the ice, while projection systems transform the backdrop of the arena, creating completely different environments. The projected imagery can dramatically alter the atmosphere of each performance, turning the ice into a vast theatrical stage.
At the forward end of Deck 6 is the Crown Lounge, a space reserved for the company’s most loyal guests. The venue pays tribute to Royal Caribbean’s history and offers dedicated services, including snacks throughout the day and concierge assistance. It provides a quieter environment compared with the lively atmosphere of the Promenade, giving loyal guests an exclusive place to relax.
Also at the forward end is the Royal Escape Room, an experience that is completely different from the ship’s other offerings. Participants are challenged to find clues, solve puzzles, and decipher codes within 60 minutes in order to complete the mission before time runs out.
Moving down to Decks 3 and 4, we find two other important areas dedicated to entertainment. Casino Royale spans both decks, offering a wide selection of games and gaming tables. Its two-level layout also makes it possible to dedicate part of the space to non-smoking guests, providing a more comfortable environment for those who prefer to avoid smoking areas.
Also spread across these two decks is Music Hall, one of the main destinations for live music on board. The venue has a lively and informal atmosphere, with concerts and live performances accompanying guests throughout the evening. The shows can be enjoyed directly from the dance floor, the bar, or the surrounding lounge areas.
Moving up to Deck 7, we find a dedicated neighbourhood designed primarily for families with children: Surfside. The area is conceived as a small seaside village where play, water, dining, and entertainment come together in one environment. Here we find Splashaway Bay and Playscape, featuring zero-entry pools, water games, and small slides, as well as Baby Bay, a dedicated area for the youngest guests with water features designed specifically for babies and toddlers.
The offering is completed by the Arcade, Sugar Beach, dedicated to sweet treats, and several dining venues including Surfside Eatery, Surfside Bites, and Pier 7, with options designed for both children and adults. By the pool, guests can also find Sprinkles, serving soft-serve ice cream, and The Lemon Post, an open-air bar offering drinks for both adults and children.
Surfside is therefore much more than a simple pool area: it is a space designed to allow families to spend much of their day without having to move to other parts of the ship. Children can play and have fun among the water features, arcade games, and activities, while parents have restaurants, bars, and relaxation areas close at hand.
Another distinctive feature is Central Park, a true garden suspended at sea, with more than 30,500 real plants, restaurants, and spaces where guests can stroll and relax. It is one of the features that best represents the philosophy of the Icon Class: bringing environments traditionally associated with land-based destinations on board a cruise ship.
Located on Deck 8, Central Park is home to some of the ship’s most important restaurants, including Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, dedicated to Japanese cuisine, with freshly prepared sushi and teppanyaki performances cooked tableside, and Chops Grille, Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse, where premium cuts of meat take centre stage, including Wagyu beef and tomahawk steaks.
For a more casual break, there is Park Café, offering salads, sandwiches, and quick bites, while Trellis Bar provides a place to relax surrounded by greenery, enjoying a drink accompanied by live music. Completing the offering is Bubbles, a small champagne bar where guests can order champagne by the glass or bottle and enjoy a more sophisticated moment in the heart of the garden.
Always on Deck 8, but outside Central Park, we find one of the most interesting new additions aboard Legend of the Seas: Hollywoodland Supper Club. The restaurant brings the atmosphere of Hollywood’s golden age on board, combining gourmet cuisine, cocktails, and jazz music in an immersive experience. Dinner thus becomes a show in its own right, with every course accompanied by a setting and soundtrack designed to recreate the charm and glamour of old Hollywood.
Moving up to Deck 15, we find Windjammer, the large buffet restaurant aboard Legend of the Seas, offering an international selection that changes throughout the day and allows guests to choose from a wide variety of dishes, ranging from Asian and Indian cuisine to Caribbean specialities, as well as classics such as pasta, burgers, and salads.
But Deck 15 is primarily characterised by two important neighbourhoods on the ship: Chill Island and AquaDome, two very different environments. Chill Island extends across Decks 15 and 16 and is designed for those looking for relaxation and outdoor living. At its centre is the Royal Bay Pool, the largest pool ever built on a cruise ship, surrounded by loungers, whirlpools, and areas where guests can relax. More intimate is The Cove Pool, featuring an infinity edge and direct views of the sea.
Adding to the atmosphere is The Lime and Coconut, the signature multi-level pool bar where cocktails, live music, and DJ sets create a livelier atmosphere, particularly in the afternoon and evening. Sprinkles is also available for an ice cream break, while El Loco Fresh serves Mexican specialities in a casual setting.
Moving up to Deck 16, Chill Island continues with Swim & Tonic, the first swim-up bar in the Royal Caribbean fleet and one of the area’s most distinctive features. Here, guests can order a drink directly from the pool, taking a seat at the swim-up bar or relaxing on in-water loungers, all within a laid-back atmosphere accompanied by music.
At the forward end of Deck 15, we find AquaDome, one of the most spectacular spaces aboard Legend of the Seas. Its vast glass structure creates a panoramic environment that opens completely towards the sea and houses the AquaTheater, where water, acrobatics, diving, and technology come together in highly spectacular performances.
AquaDome is also a dining destination. Here we find Hooked Seafood, a restaurant dedicated to New England-style seafood, and AquaDome Market, a modern food hall featuring several food stations ranging from Mexican and Cajun cuisine to Spanish and Korean dishes, as well as crêpes and freshly squeezed juices. Completing the experience is The Overlook Bar, characterised by floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows and privileged views of the ocean. Its more intimate and elegant atmosphere makes it an ideal place for a cocktail accompanied by live music.

At the aft of Deck 16, we find Thrill Island, the most adrenaline-filled neighbourhood aboard Legend of the Seas. It is the area dedicated to those seeking thrills, with attractions that make use of height, speed, and ocean views to create experiences unlike those found elsewhere on the ship.
Among the most distinctive attractions is Crown’s Edge, an experience that combines a skywalk, suspended course, and adrenaline. The attraction features a walkway suspended along the side of the ship, with the sea directly below. At a certain point, part of the walkway suddenly opens, sending the participant sliding outward from the ship and leaving them suspended above the void. It is a brief but highly spectacular experience, designed to challenge even the bravest guests.
For those who prefer a more athletic challenge, there is Adrenaline Peak, the highest rock-climbing wall ever built by Royal Caribbean. The course offers different difficulty levels and, thanks to its side-by-side lanes, allows guests to challenge another participant as they race towards the top.
Thrill Island is also designed with families in mind. Basecamp serves as the neighbourhood’s central hub, offering snacks and casual food options, while Lost Dunes features a nine-hole mini-golf course set among shipwrecks, palm trees, and other adventure-inspired elements. Completing the offering is the FlowRider, by now one of Royal Caribbean’s signature attractions, allowing guests to experience surfing directly on board, and above all Category 6, the large water park aboard Legend of the Seas.
Category 6 features six waterslides and several water attractions, transforming part of the deck into a true amusement park at sea. With speed, drops, and different types of slides, the area is one of the liveliest and most action-packed spaces on the ship.
Also on Deck 16, next to Thrill Island, is The Hideaway, a neighbourhood designed for those seeking a more peaceful and secluded atmosphere. Its centrepiece is the Hideaway Pool, the first suspended infinity pool at sea, located approximately eight decks above the ocean. Surrounded by loungers and relaxation areas, the pool offers panoramic ocean views and is reserved for adults, with music and DJ sets accompanying guests throughout the day and into the evening.
At the forward end of Deck 16, we find the Suite Neighborhood, an exclusive area dedicated to suite guests. The neighbourhood extends across multiple levels, reaching up to Deck 18, and offers private spaces and dedicated services, creating a true private enclave within the ship.
Finally, on Deck 17, we find the Sports Court, a space dedicated to sports and leisure activities, where guests can take part in a variety of disciplines and stay active while at sea.
Also on Deck 17, but in a completely different atmosphere, is Cloud 17, a more exclusive and intimate area designed for relaxation. It features a private pool and loungers where guests can enjoy peaceful ocean views. The area also provides direct access to The Lime and Coconut, as well as a cantilevered whirlpool suspended above Chill Island, creating a privileged panoramic viewpoint.

One of the features that most characterises Legend of the Seas is therefore the division of its spaces into eight different neighbourhoods, each with its own identity. These are not simply themed areas, but genuine environments designed to be experienced in different ways throughout the day. From the lively atmosphere of the Royal Promenade to the tranquillity of Central Park, from the family-focused activities of Surfside to the adrenaline of Thrill Island, each neighbourhood offers a distinct atmosphere.
This organisation allows the ship’s many activities to be distributed throughout the vessel and, above all, helps avoid the feeling of being inside one enormous space. Guests can continually choose which environment they want to experience, moving within minutes from a pool to a restaurant, from a show to a dedicated relaxation area.
The variety of the neighbourhoods is also reflected in the dining experience, which aboard Legend of the Seas becomes an integral part of life on board. Food is therefore not designed simply to satisfy hunger, but also becomes part of the entertainment. In some cases, it is the setting and service that create the experience; in others, the preparation of the food itself becomes part of the show.
Finally, entertainment plays an equally important role and is spread throughout virtually every part of the ship. On Legend of the Seas, guests will find not only the traditional theatre with evening shows, but a much broader and more diverse offering that includes live music, ice shows, acrobatics, interactive activities, and numerous other experiences. The programme is designed to accompany guests throughout the day and allow everyone to choose how they want to spend their time on board.
Legend of the Seas is therefore a ship that does not rely solely on its size, but on its ability to offer different experiences suited to every type of guest. Completely different worlds coexist on board, and it is precisely this variety that represents Legend of the Seas’ greatest strength. It is not a ship designed for just one type of cruiser, but one capable of adapting to different ways of experiencing a holiday. Everyone can create their own experience, choosing each day where to go, what to do, and how to spend their time.
And perhaps this is the true meaning of its greatness: not simply being the largest ship in the world, but being a ship capable of becoming, at the same time, a place for entertainment, relaxation, discovery, and shared experiences.
