Mitsui Ocean Sakura is enhancing its onboard entertainment offering with three new original live productions.
Encore, Icons and Dance have been created exclusively for the new luxury ship operated by Mitsui Ocean Cruises and are making their debut during her inaugural season, which began on September 19, 2026. The productions combine music, dance and live entertainment, bringing an international repertoire onboard to complement the guest experience throughout the voyage.
Created in collaboration with Belinda King Creative Productions, Encore, Icons and Dance bring together an international cast of vocalists and dancers across three distinct formats, ranging from classical crossover and popular music to international dance.
The program opens with “Encore,” an elegant production dedicated to classical crossover. Internationally acclaimed vocalists perform some of the genre’s most celebrated pieces, including The Prayer, Hymne à L'Amour and Nessun Dorma. The musical performances are complemented by choreography combining classical ballet and contemporary jazz, creating a production designed to showcase the ship’s Ocean Stage.
With “Icons,” the program turns to some of the greatest names in popular music. The show pays tribute to legendary artists and groups that have shaped music history, from The Rolling Stones and The Beatles to the timeless hits of Motown. A recognizable repertoire invites guests to connect with songs that have become part of the soundtrack of generations.
International dance takes center stage in “Dance,” which brings together the ship’s ensemble of dancers in a series of performances inspired by a variety of styles. From the elegance of the Quickstep to the passion of the Tango, the show combines technique, energy and movement through original choreography and specially designed costumes.
The three new productions have been created by Belinda King Creative Productions, a company specializing in entertainment for the luxury cruise industry. Each 45-minute show has been developed to complement the intimate scale and refined atmosphere of Mitsui Ocean Sakura, with particular attention to choreography, costumes, vocal performances and musical arrangements.
The international entertainment offering is complemented by FUNATABI – Beautiful Encounters with Japan, Mitsui Ocean Cruises’ signature cultural program. The onboard experience combines contemporary stage productions with opportunities to discover Japanese culture, from Rakugo storytelling and traditional crafts to a range of cultural enrichment activities.
The program reflects the cruise line’s approach to showcasing Japan through a combination of destinations, landscapes, cuisine, traditions and omotenashi hospitality. This philosophy is also reflected in the itineraries of Mitsui Ocean Sakura, which focus on discovering Japan’s coastal destinations and rich cultural heritage.
Entering service on September 19, 2026, Mitsui Ocean Sakura is the second luxury ship in the Mitsui Ocean Cruises fleet, following Mitsui Ocean Fuji, which entered service in 2024. With a capacity of 458 guests and exclusively all-suite accommodation, the ship is currently offering shorter voyages in Japan, centered on coastal destinations, local culture and cuisine.
The addition of Encore, Icons and Dance further expands the onboard offering, complementing the experiences centered on discovering Japan with a program of international entertainment. Together, the three productions contribute to a diverse onboard experience that brings music, dance and culture together throughout the voyage.
