Cunard: The sweetest cruise of all

Cunard will have a new crew member on board the Queen Mary 2 this summer, honey sommelier Sarah Wyndham will be on board from Southampton to New York at the end of September. And could become a regular lecturer.

Cunard has partnered with Bermondsey Street Bees, now based in Essex, for its special Festival Of Food And Wine voyage.

Trained in Bologna with the Italian Register of Experts in the Sensory Analysis of Honey, Sarah is the UK’s first professional Honey Sommelier and apiculture consultant. She is also the UK’s only honey librarian and will be bringing some of her rarest honeys on the cruise when she will give talks on sustainable bee-keeping as well as conducting honey cocktail-making masterclasses and food pairing workshops.

Sarah is also an author. Her first book , ‘Planting for Honeybees’ ,was published by Quadrille in 2018. Available in five languages, it has sold over 100,000 copies and continues as a bestseller in this sector. Her latest work, ‘The Wild Bee Handbook’ published by Quadrille this year, reflects the growing hostility to the honeybee amongst ecologists.

Her curated honeys, supplied to many of London’s leading hotels, bars and Michelin-starred restaurants, will also be available on a special afternoon tea menu on the voyage.

Sarah Wyndham Lewis will be accompanied by her husband, Dale Gibson, a former stockbroker and now a professional beekeeper and hands-on bee man.
