Cruising with children: is it possible?

Is it possible to have a high standard, relaxing and safe family travel experience on board a cruise ship?

Nowadays, cruise ships are real floating luxury hotels with all kinds of comforts and entertainment. In fact, cruise lines are very well organised to accommodate a varied and diverse clientele that includes families with babies, children and teenagers.

When considering the cruise option, it is important to remember that some companies offer families very reduced price offers or in some cases even free stays for passengers under the age of 18. The focus on children is noticeable from the moment they embark, where in most cases, priority queues are created for families with minors.

On board, the cruise experience is made even more comfortable by the numerous possible cabin accommodations. In addition to the provision of cots, bed rails and bathtubs (subject to notification at the time of booking), the space in the cabins is designed to accommodate parents and children.

In the restaurants on board, especially in the buffets, there is a huge variety of food and sometimes even customised options for young children. In addition to the so-called ‘baby menu’, it is possible to mention any issues concerning food allergies and intolerances when booking and thus obtain customised menus. Some ships also have entire restaurants dedicated to families with children. The restaurant areas are always equipped with high chairs for children, which are provided on request.

The focus on the customer continues throughout the day; in fact, animation is present from morning until evening and is differentiated according to age. Therefore, not only adults can take part in all the activities organised on board, but also children and teenagers are provided with play rooms and clubs, activities throughout the day, assistance and much more. In fact, especially on board the largest and most modern ships, there are often real water parks with slides and games as well as many other entertainments such as bowling alleys, video and augmented reality rooms.

All of this makes it possible for children to have fun in complete safety and for parents to make the most of their time on board. In fact, even at times such as mealtimes or shore excursions, entertainment and babysitting services are always available, although they vary from company to company. In general, the common areas also make it possible to move around with buggies and cots, due to the ample space of the lifts, decks and corridors.

Whether for a honeymoon, as a couple, with friends or with the family… cruising remains an option that can satisfy the needs of everyone: from the oldest to the youngest!
