Discovering Unique Places with Costa Cruises

During the Club Cruise 2023 on board the Costa Favolosa, exploring Morocco and Tunisia, we participated in several excursions offered by the company that led us to discover unique and iconic places while immersing ourselves in the local culture.

Tunisi

Our first excursion took place in Tunis. “Be Local eat Local” was the slogan associated with this experience, and it truly provided us with a complete immersion into Tunisian culture. It included a lunch at a farmhouse hosted by a local family. After a bus journey, our first stop was at a local market where we purchased some ingredients for preparing our lunch and strolled among stalls of meat, fish, olives, and spices. At the farmhouse, a lovely family warmly welcomed us, making us feel like part of their family.

After some conversation, we began preparing lunch, with typical Tunisian dishes such as Cous Cous. What made it truly engaging and memorable was the preparation of the meal together. Some of us roasted vegetables, others cooked the meat, some peeled and sliced the vegetables, and another group worked on desserts.

After setting the table and enjoying our meal, we concluded our day with a set of souvenir photos and some group singing. It was a one-of-a-kind, engaging excursion that left us with unforgettable memories of a fantastic experience.

Cadice

Our second excursion, on the other hand, took place in Cadiz. Having already visited the city, we opted for an alternative excursion, thanks to the wide range of choices offered by the company, allowing frequent travelers to explore new places continuously. So, we headed to Medina Sidonia and Vejer de la Frontera, with their picturesque white houses, Moorish-style squares, and churches.

Our first stop was in Medina Sidonia, where, in addition to taking a panoramic tour of the village, we sampled typical sweets prepared by the nuns at the convent. Later, we moved to Vejer for a walk among the white houses, scenic spots, and shopping, ending with free time to explore the narrow streets on our own.

Casablanca

In Casablanca, we had a fantastic 11-hour excursion that took us to both Casablanca and Rabat, touching on the highlights of the cities that left us in awe with their uniqueness, details, and beauty.

Starting from Rabat, we visited the Royal Palace, the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah, where we had some free time to explore and enjoy tea with cookies. We then headed to Casablanca, where we had lunch in a typical Moroccan restaurant and continued our city tour.

Arriving at Mohamed V Square, which houses the Hassan II Mosque, we were mesmerized by its beauty. It is the largest mosque in Morocco and one of the largest in the world, capable of accommodating up to 25,000 worshippers inside and 80,000 outside, with a minaret reaching a height of 210 meters. Our day concluded with a visit to a Berber pharmacy, where we could purchase the famous Argan oil, and an external visit to the Royal Palace.

Malaga

In Malaga, also knowing the city well, we opted for an alternative adventure along the Caminito del Rey, a nearly 8 km route that was once considered one of the world’s most dangerous. Today, it is a guided and safely passable path, but in the past, it was perilous with no safety barriers, and explorers would walk more than 100 meters above the ground without harnesses. It is a captivating and fascinating place, immersed in unspoiled nature.

These experiences were certainly different but beautiful and fascinating in their own right. The added value to these cruises is the variety of excursions that allow even frequent cruisers to always explore something new.
