Viking expands its river fleet with Viking Honir and Thoth

Viking has announced the delivery of two new river ships that strengthen its award-winning river fleet: the Viking Honir, designed to sail the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers, and the Viking Thoth, built to navigate the Nile in Egypt.

The delivery ceremonies took place in Basel, Switzerland, and at the Massara Shipyard in Cairo, highlighting the company’s growing international presence.

The Viking Honir is the newest of the Viking Longships, sister ships that embody the Scandinavian elegance and technological innovation for which Viking is renowned. The vessel accommodates 190 guests in 95 staterooms and features three full decks, a distinctive square bow, the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, asymmetric corridors, and true two-room suites. During her inaugural year, the Viking Honir will offer some of Viking’s most iconic itineraries, including Passage to Eastern Europe, Rhine Getaway and Christmas on the Rhine.

The Viking Thoth, with capacity for 82 guests in 41 staterooms, has been specifically designed for the Nile and will operate on the popular Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. Inspired by Viking’s award-winning river and ocean ships, the Thoth is a sister ship to the Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor and Viking Amun. All of these vessels share an elegant Scandinavian design, making them the most modern sister ships currently sailing the Nile.

Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, emphasized the company’s pride in welcoming these two new vessels to its river fleet. With the arrival of the Viking Honir and Viking Thoth, Viking continues to offer an ever-growing number of curious travelers the opportunity to explore some of the world’s most iconic waterways in the signature comfort and style of the brand.

The expansion of Viking’s fleet is part of a long-term growth strategy aimed at consolidating the company’s leadership in experiential travel. With the confirmed orders, Viking expects to take delivery of 23 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 new ocean ships by 2031, bringing the total fleet to 112 river vessels and 23 ocean and expedition ships by 2031.

With the introduction of the Viking Honir and Viking Thoth, Viking reaffirms its ability to combine elegance, innovation, and comfort across its river and ocean cruises. These new ships offer travelers the chance to explore some of the world’s most iconic routes — from Europe’s storied rivers to the historic waters of the Nile — further strengthening the company’s position as a global leader in premium travel experiences.
