Scenic Cruises: A Historic Meeting in Honfleur
On September 19th, in the picturesque Norman port of Honfleur, Scenic marked a historic milestone with the first-ever meeting between two of its most iconic ships: Scenic Gem and Scenic Eclipse.
This symbolic encounter brought together two distinct ways of exploring the world — the calm, enchanting rhythm of river cruising and the adventurous, refined spirit of ocean discovery.
Scenic Gem and Scenic Eclipse
Scenic Gem, purpose-built for navigating the Seine, is among the few river vessels able to dock directly in the heart of Honfleur, a port that bridges the river and the English Channel. Scenic Eclipse, by contrast, is the world’s first Discovery Yacht™, designed for voyages ranging from the Mediterranean coastlines to polar expeditions, thanks to state-of-the-art technology and a groundbreaking design. Their meeting in Honfleur was a powerful representation of Scenic’s ability to deliver ultra-luxury, tailor-made experiences, regardless of the destination.
To commemorate the occasion, Captains Ludovic Libs (Scenic Gem) and Radomir Novosel (Scenic Eclipse) held an official ceremony, symbolically uniting the two Scenic worlds. Onboard Scenic Eclipse, the culinary team led by Pastry Chef Jed Samson and Executive Chef Viktor Malek unveiled an extraordinary cake replicating the Honfleur harbour, complete with intricately crafted edible versions of both ships. Guests enjoyed the rare opportunity to tour both vessels, experiencing the unique ambiance and travel philosophy each offers. Additionally, onboard Scenic Eclipse, guide Ben Baillie shared stories and insights into the region’s rich cultural heritage.
