Phoenix Reisen is preparing to welcome a new addition to its fleet. From November 2027, the MS Alvara will officially enter service for the Bonn-based cruise operator, expanding its range of offerings for passengers. Built in 1998, the ship is already well known in the cruise industry and currently sails for Oceania Cruises under the name MS Insignia.
The transition to her new operator will involve a series of modifications designed to enhance the ship and align her with the Phoenix Reisen identity. In September 2027, the MS Alvara will be transferred to the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, where she will receive the company’s distinctive turquoise livery, along with a number of upgrades aimed at ensuring guests enjoy a comfortable experience and the traditional Phoenix atmosphere. The ship is already equipped with a shore power connection and, according to the company, is in excellent technical and operational condition.

Managing Director Benjamin Krumpen has expressed his enthusiasm for the arrival of the MS Alvara in the Phoenix Reisen fleet, describing her as a well-maintained ship in excellent condition and with outstanding technical standards. The company is confident that the new addition will appeal to its guests and represent a valuable asset to the fleet.
For the ship’s operations, Phoenix Reisen will rely on two long-standing partners: shipping company BSM and onboard services provider sea chefs, both of which have established relationships with the tour operator.
The MS Alvara will begin her programme in November 2027, offering several short cruises, a Christmas voyage and two longer itineraries in the Mediterranean. With capacity for approximately 700 guests, the ship will provide a range of options for travellers seeking anything from a short getaway at sea to a more extended cruise.
The itineraries will be featured in the Phoenix magazine, scheduled for publication on 6 November 2026, and in the Seereisen 2028 catalogue, due out on 18 December 2026. Online bookings will open as early as 23 October 2026, allowing travellers to plan their cruises well in advance.
The christening ceremony, which will reflect the distinctive Phoenix Reisen style, will take place in Hamburg on the anniversary of the tour operator’s founding. The date chosen is 26 November 2027, which will also mark the first anniversary of the MS Alvara and the 54th anniversary of Phoenix Reisen.
With the addition of the MS Alvara, Phoenix Reisen is strengthening its ocean-cruising offering with a ship already familiar to an international audience and a programme ranging from short itineraries and Christmas cruises to longer voyages in the Mediterranean.
