Norwegian Viva Christened in Miami

Norwegian Cruise Line, a pioneer in the global cruise travel industry with 57 years of history marked by records and successes, celebrated the christening of the highly anticipated new ship, Norwegian Viva, in Miami, the second in the innovative Prima Class.

David J. Herrera, President of Norwegian Cruise Line, expressed genuine delight in celebrating the baptism of Norwegian Viva in Miami, allowing him to share this special moment with families and friends. He also expressed extreme gratitude towards the entire NCL team, partners, and the group that contributed to the creation of Norwegian Viva, always committed to ensuring exceptional vacation experiences for guests.

The christening ceremony took place in the company’s LEED-certified terminal at the port of Miami, with over 1500 guests and Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Luis Fonsi, who christened the ship with the traditional bottle-breaking ceremony on the hull.

“As a company, we’ve experienced a legendary year with the debut of next-generation ships across all three of our brands: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises,” stated Harry Sommer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “The addition of Norwegian Viva further elevates our world-class fleet, offering our exceptional guests another incredible way to enjoy their vacation, live new experiences, and create unforgettable memories. Since its launch in August, the initial satisfaction of Norwegian Viva guests has surpassed that of any new addition to the NCL fleet, a testament not only to how incredible this ship is but also to the exceptional level of service and attention provided by the incredible crew on board.”

The celebration continued throughout the evening with exceptional entertainment followed by Fonsi’s performance of some of his most well-known songs, including his global hit “Despacito.” Other talented artists with Miami and Latin roots, such as Marcello Hernandez, the Latin Pop queen Paulina Rubio, and the recently Grammy-nominated artist Pedro Capó, also joined the Norwegian Viva celebration. On this occasion, the Knut Kloster Hall was inaugurated, a new addition to the NCL Terminal that pays tribute to NCL founder Knut Kloster, recounting 57 years of history and innovation in the cruise industry.

“It is truly an honor to celebrate the magnificent Norwegian Viva in authentic Latin style in Miami alongside other high-profile Latin artists,” said Luis Fonsi, world-renowned and multi-award-winning artist. “We will give her a proper farewell before she makes her debut in my hometown, San Juan, Puerto Rico.”

Norwegian Viva, capable of accommodating 3099 passengers, offers unique and entertaining activities, including Viva Speedway (a three-story attraction), premium offerings like the Indulge Food Hall, an outdoor dining area with 11 exclusive restaurants, and an impressive art collection featuring prominent works. This includes the interactive 15-meter piece by British digital artist Dominic Harris titled “Every Wing has a Silver Lining,” installed at the Metropolitan Bar. The Prima Class is committed to expanding its horizons by creating new designs and services for the ship, prioritizing the guest and ship experience.

After its debut last August with the inaugural summer season in Europe and a selection of voyages to Miami, Norwegian Viva will be repositioned to San Juan, Puerto Rico, offering seven-day trips until March 2024 with stops in various ports such as Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. John’s, Antigua; Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; Philipsburg, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, British Virgin Islands. In April 2024, Norwegian Viva will return with itineraries in the Mediterranean islands and Greece. Additionally, with NCL’s annual “Free at Sea” promotion, guests will enjoy vacations with more benefits such as unlimited open bar, specialty restaurant package, shore excursion credit, unlimited Wi-Fi, and discounted rates for the third and fourth guests.
