NCL Opens Bookings for Norwegian Aura

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) takes another decisive step in its evolution with the official opening of bookings for Norwegian Aura, the largest and longest ship ever built for the brand.

Set to be based in Miami starting in June 2027, following a European debut in late May of the same year—Norwegian Aura is poised to redefine standards of size, design, and onboard experience within the NCL fleet, further strengthening the company’s position in the contemporary and family-oriented cruise segment.

With a length of nearly 1,130 feet, a gross tonnage of 169,000, and a double-occupancy capacity of 3,840 guests, Norwegian Aura sets a new internal benchmark for Norwegian Cruise Line. Its dimensions make it approximately 10% larger than its most recent sister ships, Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna, marking a significant evolution in the brand’s ship design.

These figures represent not only an engineering milestone, but also a clear and deliberate vision: to offer more expansive spaces, a greater variety of venues, and an onboard experience capable of meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse audience. Norwegian Aura has in fact been designed with strong attention to families and multigenerational travel, without sacrificing the iconic elements that have long defined and distinguished the NCL product.

At the heart of the onboard experience aboard Norwegian Aura is Ocean Heights, an innovative outdoor activity complex conceived as a dynamic and adaptable space. Designed to accompany guests throughout the entire day, Ocean Heights transitions from daytime fun to a more relaxed and sociable evening atmosphere, becoming a gathering place for families, friends, and travelers of all ages.

This concept reflects the new ship’s overall design philosophy: creating spaces that encourage social interaction, movement, and relaxation, adapting to different moments of the day and to guests’ varying expectations. Ocean Heights therefore represents not only an entertainment area, but a true symbol of the new generation of Norwegian Cruise Line ships.

From Miami, Norwegian Aura will primarily operate seven-day Caribbean cruises, with itineraries designed to showcase some of the region’s most iconic destinations. Each voyage will include a call at one of NCL’s two private or exclusive destinations: Harvest Caye in Belize or Great Stirrup Cay, the company’s private island in the Bahamas.

Among the most significant new features planned for Great Stirrup Cay is the Great Life Lagoon, an expansive pool area designed as the centerpiece of the island’s beach experience. The lagoon will include swim-up bars, premium loungers, and a dedicated splash zone for children, offering a complete and inclusive experience for guests of all ages.

Adjacent to this area, the Vibe Shore Club will also make its debut—an adults-only retreat featuring a private bar and upscale lounge spaces, designed for those seeking a more tranquil and refined atmosphere. The island’s development will continue in 2026 with the opening of the Great Tides Waterpark, a nearly six-acre water park that will feature 19 slides, industry-first cliff jumps, a dynamic river attraction, and new adventure excursions. These enhancements will be fully operational in time for Norwegian Aura’s 2027 sailings.

The announcement of Norwegian Aura was accompanied by remarks from Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., who emphasized the symbolic and strategic importance of the new ship. According to Sommer, Norwegian Aura represents not only the newest addition to the fleet, but also a reflection of the brand’s evolution and its ability to connect people from around the world. The ship has been conceived to give guests the freedom to experience their vacation at their own pace, encouraging moments of relaxation, social connection, and living fully in the present. This approach reflects Norwegian Cruise Line’s identity and its commitment to delivering flexible, customizable, and contemporary travel experiences.

Before establishing her homeport in Miami in June 2027, Norwegian Aura will debut with an inaugural Mediterranean cruise. On May 21, 2027, the ship will set sail on a seven-day itinerary from Trieste to Barcelona, calling at Valletta (Malta), Salerno, and Rome (Civitavecchia). A 14-day transatlantic crossing will follow, bringing the vessel to the United States. From June through October 2027, Norwegian Aura will operate seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises, with calls in Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Great Stirrup Cay. During the 2027/28 winter season, the ship will sail Western Caribbean itineraries, visiting Roatán, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Harvest Caye, further expanding the range of itineraries in one of the cruise market’s most in-demand regions.

With Norwegian Aura, Norwegian Cruise Line enters a new phase of development, focusing on record-breaking dimensions, innovative spaces, and an offering designed to meet the expectations of a broad and diverse audience. The debut of Norwegian Aura in 2027 therefore marks a key milestone for NCL, strengthening its presence in the Caribbean and consolidating its role as a leading player in the global cruise industry.
