MS Amera: The New Face of the Phoenix Reisen Ship
In today’s cruise industry, ship refurbishments represent far more than simple technical upgrades: they are a statement of intent. Comfort, energy efficiency, design, and the quality of the onboard experience have become central elements for both cruise lines and travelers, especially in an industry that continues to evolve rapidly.
Within this context, Phoenix Reisen has launched a major refurbishment project for its beloved MS Amera, investing approximately €15 million together with ship management company BSM in a series of upgrades designed to modernize and enhance the onboard experience.

For the modernization works, MS Amera entered the prestigious Chantier Naval de Marseille, the historic French shipyard specialized in cruise ship maintenance and refits. The refurbishment will involve numerous areas of the ship, with particular focus on guest comfort, interior aesthetics, and technological innovation.
Among the main highlights is the complete redesign of the hair salon, beauty, and sauna area, together with the modernization of 160 guest cabin bathrooms. Entertainment spaces also play a central role in the refurbishment project, with the renovation of the show lounge and the installation of new panoramic windows in the Pacific Lounge, designed to create an even more immersive connection with the sea and the destinations visited by the ship. Significant upgrades also involve the outdoor areas, including the restyling of the pool on Deck 9 and the modernization of air-conditioning systems in the onboard restaurants and bars.
Beyond aesthetic and functional improvements, the project also places strong emphasis on energy efficiency and operational sustainability.
The upgrades include improvements to the ship’s air-conditioning, refrigeration, and elevator systems, together with the integration of new energy-management technologies aimed at more efficient onboard resource consumption. Among the innovations introduced is also an “Eco-Mode” system, designed to reduce consumption and optimize the ship’s operations according to enhanced sustainability standards.
Following the completion of the refurbishment works, MS Amera inaugurated its new cruise season on May 23 with international itineraries operated by Phoenix Reisen. The program includes cruises across Western Europe, Great Britain, the Baltic region, and Scandinavia, as well as itineraries to Canada. This return has been particularly anticipated by fans of the German brand and by travelers who choose this experience for the elegant, relaxed, and authentic atmosphere that has always characterized the ship.
