Maiden Voyage of the Sea Cloud Spirit set for august 2020

The third tall ship for Sea Cloud Cruises, the Sea Cloud Spirit, will be taking its maiden voyage in August 2020. Just like the company’s flagship, the Sea Cloud, and sister ship, the Sea Cloud II, the Sea Cloud Spirit will offer the atmosphere of a private yacht and is indeed the perfect cruise for those who are truly passionate about sailing.

Sea Cloud Cruises is the only cruise line in the world where sailing is still done traditionally by hand. This unique sailing experience allows guests to visit smaller, more unique ports and avoid the more crowded destinations. The company occupies a special niche in the cruise market for a cruise that is both casual and elegant at the same time. The two operating ships in the fleet regularly are awarded five stars in the Berlitz Cruise Guide’s list and are two of the top cruise ships in the world.

The exterior of the Sea Cloud Spirit is a three-mast, fully-rigged ship of about 44,100 square feet, which is roughly twice the size of the US Coast Guard’s ship, the Cutter Eagle. The ship has two diesel-electric drives for when sailing isn’t feasible and uses low-sulfur marine diesel. “The use of heavy oil was never an option for us. We offer a sustainable experience that works in harmony with nature and the people whose countries we visit,” says Daniel Schaefer, Managing Director of Sea Cloud Cruises.

The interior construction of the Sea Cloud Spirit is currently underway at the Metalships & Docks shipyard in Vigo, Spain and is on schedule. The interior was designed by the renowned Partner Ship Design in Hamburg. This majestic tall ship will offer its lucky guests plenty of outdoor space, a wellness and Spa center and elegant, classic yacht interiors. Dining options will include a fine dining restaurant as well as a casual dining experience on the lido deck, both of which will feature fresh local foods and great wine. There will be 69 outer cabins, of which 25 will have a private balcony. Incredibly, the Sea Cloud Spirit will also feature an elevator to move between the decks, a first ever for a sailing ship!
