Another major milestone on the road to the debut of Hero of the Seas has been reached at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The new Royal Caribbean ship has touched water for the first time, marking one of the most significant stages of her construction and moving closer to completion ahead of her entry into service, scheduled for Miami in August 2027.

To allow Hero of the Seas to be transferred from the dry dock to the outfitting pier, the dock was filled with more than 90 million gallons of water, equivalent to approximately 341 million liters. Once the operation was completed and the water had reached the level required for the transfer, the ship was moved to the outfitting pier, where completion and outfitting work will continue over the coming months, including the installation of interior spaces, public areas and guest amenities.

Hero of the Seas will be the fourth ship in the Icon Class, a family of ships with which Royal Caribbean has introduced a new concept of ocean vacation, combining entertainment, dining, relaxation and adrenaline-fueled attractions within a single floating resort. The new ship will further develop this concept through eight distinct neighborhoods, designed to offer different experiences for families, couples, groups of friends and travelers of all ages. On board, guests will find nine pools and 28 dining venues and food outlets, including one of the new experiences announced for Hero of the Seas: the Orleans Parrish Supper Club, designed to further enhance the ship’s culinary offering. Particular attention has also been devoted to accommodation. Among the most distinctive options is the Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-deck accommodation concept specifically designed for families, with spaces and features intended to transform the stateroom itself into an integral part of the travel experience.

As is customary for Royal Caribbean, Hero of the Seas will place a strong emphasis on onboard attractions. Among the most spectacular experiences will be Crown’s Edge, a combination of a skywalk and zip line suspended approximately 46 meters (154 feet) above sea level, offering guests a particularly striking view of the ocean. For those looking to relax, new spaces will include Coconut Cove, a dedicated pool area, and The Hideaway, an adults-only retreat. The offering will be complemented by numerous bars, restaurants and entertainment venues, reinforcing the philosophy behind the Icon Class: transforming the ship into a destination in its own right, capable of offering activities and experiences throughout the day while still providing plenty of opportunities to unwind.

Over the coming months, work will therefore focus on the outfitting and completion of the ship, ahead of sea trials and the operations required prior to delivery. Once in service, Hero of the Seas will offer seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean departing from Miami. The itineraries will also include Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination in The Bahamas and one of the cruise line’s flagship destinations. The choice of Miami as the ship’s homeport further reinforces Florida’s role as a major gateway to the Caribbean cruise market, while giving passengers the opportunity to combine their cruise experience with a stay in the city and the surrounding region.
