GPH’s latest projects in the Western Mediterranean

During a conference held at Seatrade Cruise Globalon March 29, Ports Holding (GPH), the world’s largest independent cruise terminal operator, announced the latest updates on its projects in the Western Mediterranean region.

Javier Rodriguez Sanchez, Regional Director West Med Asia, provided an update on the improvements GPH will be making to the Alicante Cruise Port.  With a planned investment of approximately €2 million, the cruise terminal will be completely renovated and modernized to include new F&B and retail areas that will enhance the cruise guest experience.

Alba Colet, Commercial Director of the Cruise Port of Tarragona, shared the latest developments at the port. GPH will begin operations in Tarragona in April 2022 and plans to build a new terminal that will use solar energy to meet all of the terminal’s energy needs. Tarragona is located just 55 minutes south of Barcelona Airport, and construction of the new terminal is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2023 and be completed in May 2024.

Susana Gutierrez, Interim General Manager of Las Palmas Cruise Ports, provided an update on the three Canary Islands ports – Las Palmas, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote Cruise Ports. GPH, together with its local partner, will start operations at the three cruise ports in October 2022. The project includes the construction of new cruise terminals in all three ports, the largest of which will be in Las Palmas. Construction of the new terminals will begin in 2023 and will be completed in March-May 2024 for Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and in May 2025 for Las Palmas.

Jordi Guillem, Manager of Global Ports Services, also presented an overview of the company’s offerings, which include port service packages in all GPH and non-GPH ports worldwide. Global Ports Services plans to expand its port and land agency services in Spanish ports.

Javier Rodriguez Sanchez concluded: “We are proud to continue our commitment to building state-of-the-art, sustainable cruise ports in the Western Mediterranean that deliver exceptional guest experiences.”
