Explora I sets sail for its inaugural voyage

Explora I, the first ship of the Explora Journeys fleet, has begun its inaugural journey with a seven-night cruise that will take guests through the majestic landscapes of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands and Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands before heading towards Reykjavik, Iceland.

The journey has been designed to emphasize the company’s “Ocean State of Mind” philosophy, creating engaging experiences for guests that are both physical and intellectual, as well as spiritual.

Michael Ungerer, CEO of Explora Journeys, stated: “It is an honor for us to welcome the first guests on board Explora I and share this special moment with them as we embark on the inaugural journey from Copenhagen. Our guests will experience the finest European hospitality at sea and our vibrant and cosmopolitan sense of luxury, while discovering some of the world’s most beautiful destinations. A new era of luxury travel begins now with Explora I’s maiden voyage.”

During the celebrations held in Copenhagen on August 1, 2023, the traditional exchange of emblems, a maritime tradition to celebrate a ship’s first visit to a destination, took place with the presence of the ship’s captain, Serena Melani, Johan Hoganfalt, Deputy Harbor Master, Sune Christensen, Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Malmö Port, Klaus Bondam, director of Cruise Baltic and Cruise Copenhagen.

Explora I will spend several weeks in Northern Europe before crossing the Atlantic Ocean and spending the winter in North America and the Caribbean Sea before returning to Europe in the summer of 2024 for voyages in the Mediterranean Sea.

The second unit of the fleet, Explora II, is currently under construction in Italy and will enter service in August 2024. Explora III and Explora IV, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), will join the Explora Journeys fleet in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
