Emerald Sakara Embarks on Inaugural Cruise

Emerald Cruises‘ second luxury vessel, Emerald Sakara, set sail from Piraeus port on August 5 for its sold-out inaugural cruise against the captivating backdrop of ancient Athens. The following morning, its twin ship, Emerald Azzurra, officially welcomed it to the fleet as both ships embarked on a picturesque journey through the Corinth Canal.

Under the command of Captain Jonathan Edwards, who also captained Emerald Azzurra during its launch in 2022, Emerald Sakara is now offering an eight-day Ionian Sea Adventure itinerary from Athens to Civitavecchia (Rome). Guests enjoyed guided tours of Delphi, visited the stunning island of Cephalonia in Greece, and explored the beautiful Campania coastline with stops in Giardini Naxos, Amalfi, Sorrento, and Capri.

While nearly identical to its twin yacht, Emerald Sakara‘s elegant interiors feature enhancements from furniture brands such as Tribu and Gervasoni, lighting by designer Tom Dixon, and a surprising collaboration between Freifrau and Missoni. Technological upgrades include Starlink internet services.

“Launching a new luxury yacht is always thrilling, as it’s when the hard work of our talented team of designers and builders comes to life,” commented Glen Moroney, Chairman and Founder of Scenic Group, during the launch of Emerald Cruises‘ second luxury yacht, Emerald Sakara. “The ability to introduce Emerald Sakara nearly a year after launching Emerald Azzurra speaks volumes about how well our yacht cruising program has been embraced by guests, travel advisors, and charter partners. With Emerald Sakara, we’re opening up even more captivating new destinations for our guests to explore.”

After its August debut, Emerald Sakara will spend the summer season exploring the coastal waters of Italy, Greece, Turkey, and the Adriatic. From there, both Emerald Sakara and Emerald Azzurra will cross the Atlantic to spend winter in the warm waters of the Caribbean and Central America. The first Eastern Caribbean and Grenadines sailing is scheduled for November 18, 2023. Emerald Sakara will be christened in San Juan, Puerto Rico on December 2, with Kelly Craighead, President and CEO of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), serving as the godmother.

Another exquisite yacht joins this category of small luxury vessels, ensuring unparalleled intimacy and service, and granting access to areas typically inaccessible to larger ships. These unique experiences offer emotions on the sea, in a decidedly private atmosphere that makes every guest feel like they’re on their own personal yacht.
