Century Cruises is celebrating a major international milestone after winning eight 2026 Magellan Awards, including seven Gold Awards and one Silver Award. Announced on October 7, 2026, the awards recognize several aspects of the company’s operations, from its river ships and destination experiences to sustainability, itinerary development, digital marketing and training for travel industry professionals.

The achievement confirms the continued growth of Century Cruises, a company with deep roots in Yangtze River cruising in China that is now expanding its presence in international markets, with a particular focus on Europe. This evolution builds on the company’s experience in the Chinese market while preserving the cultural identity, hospitality and approach to travel experiences that define the brand.

The eight awards received by Century Cruises span a broad range of categories. Seven Gold Awards recognize the company’s initiatives and products, while one Silver Award acknowledges its offering in the luxury river cruise segment. Among the honors are the Gold Award for #DiscoverChina2026, a social media campaign designed to inspire new travelers to discover China, and three awards for Century Star, recognizing its position in the European river cruise market, its commitment to sustainability and its luxury offering.

The company also received a Gold Award for the itinerary Above the Clouds, Along the River: A Journey Into China’s Surreal Landscapes, which showcases some of the country’s most striking scenery. Another award recognizes its training program for travel professionals and commercial partners, while Century Cruises’ European expansion, tracing the route from the Yangtze to the Danube, was honored in the destination development category. Completing the list are a Gold Award for Chongqing, a city where modernity meets thousands of years of history, and a Silver Award for Century Star in the luxury ship category.

A central role in this achievement is played by Century Star, the vessel that marks the company’s entry into and growing presence in the European river cruise market. Its awards in the river cruise, sustainability and luxury categories underscore its importance within the brand’s international strategy.

The project is part of the Rivers Entwined philosophy, through which Century Cruises aims to connect European destinations, cultures and experiences with elements of its Chinese heritage. The goal is to create a travel experience that combines the brand’s identity with the distinctive character of the regions visited, offering passengers a perspective that brings different cultural traditions together.

The expansion into Europe represents a significant milestone for a company that has built its expertise in the Chinese market and is now seeking to establish an increasingly international presence. This growth involves not only the introduction of new ships, but also the development of commercial partnerships and the creation of an offering tailored to the expectations of European travelers and travel industry professionals.

Alongside its fleet development, the Magellan Awards recognize Century Cruises’ efforts to promote China as a travel destination. Through themed itineraries, immersive experiences and communication initiatives, the company aims to give travelers opportunities to discover the country’s natural and cultural heritage. In this context, the award for Above the Clouds, Along the River recognizes an itinerary highlighting some of China’s most distinctive landscapes. The award dedicated to Chongqing, meanwhile, underscores the appeal of a destination that combines urban development, history and tradition.

The #DiscoverChina2026 campaign extends this strategy to digital channels. Social media serves as a tool for reaching new audiences, telling the stories of destinations and generating interest in experiences that go beyond river cruising itself. The Gold Award in this category highlights the role of communication in building the company’s international identity.

Another significant aspect of the awards is the recognition of the company’s training initiatives for travel professionals. The award-winning program was developed to engage travel advisors, meeting and incentive planners, and other industry professionals, providing them with the knowledge and tools needed to understand and present Century Cruises’ offering.

As David Fredericks, President and CEO of Century Cruises – The Americas, explained, the program goes beyond supporting product sales and aims to build a deeper understanding of the experiences offered by the company. Education therefore becomes an integral part of commercial development, helping to strengthen relationships with industry partners and communicate the distinctive features of the product more effectively.

Fredericks also emphasized that this achievement is the result of collaboration among multiple teams, from marketing and sales to participation in industry trade shows and cooperation with local partners, as well as the work of crews, guides and tour operators in China and Europe.

The 2026 Magellan Awards are part of an internationalization strategy spearheaded by Chairman Peng Jianhu, aimed at expanding the company’s presence beyond its historic Yangtze River market while preserving the culture and hospitality that define its identity.

Following the introduction of Century Star in Europe, Century Cruises is preparing for the further development of Century Diamond. At the same time, the company plans to expand its portfolio of products in China, which also includes Century Vision, and explore new opportunities associated with a future Egypt product line. These initiatives reflect a strategy focused on different markets and destinations, with the aim of diversifying the company’s offering and creating new opportunities in river tourism and organized travel.

For Century Cruises, the eight Magellan Awards represent not only recognition of its achievements to date, but also confirmation of the path it has chosen. From China to Europe, with potential future developments in Egypt, the company aims to build an international offering that brings together cultures, destinations and different ways of discovering the world.
