Following the inaugural voyage of Century Star on the Danube, Century Cruises is preparing the next step in its European expansion with Century Diamond, the second vessel in the company’s new generation of premium sustainable river ships. The ship is scheduled to debut in August 2027 and will mark Century Cruises’ arrival on the Rhine, where it will complement the presence of Century Star on the Danube.
The announcement marks a new chapter for Century Cruises, which is steadily expanding its European fleet with ships designed to combine technology, environmental awareness and contemporary comfort. Century Diamond has been conceived to bring the company’s “Rivers Intertwined” philosophy to Europe’s waterways, connecting its Asian roots with the history, culture and traditions of Europe.

Measuring approximately 135 metres in length, Century Diamond will feature 76 cabins and suites spread across four decks, with a maximum capacity of 174 guests. The ship will be equipped with an advanced hybrid propulsion system and will be built using approximately 60% recycled steel, reaffirming Century Cruises’ commitment to greater sustainability in the design and construction of its vessels.
Century Diamond will be the second of four new ships scheduled to join the company’s European fleet. The project aims to combine a contemporary approach to river cruising with technological solutions designed to reduce environmental impact. For Century Cruises, the new generation of luxury river cruising is therefore not only about how guests experience life on board, but also about how Europe’s great rivers can be preserved for future generations.
At the heart of the project is the “Rivers Intertwined” philosophy, which conceptually connects the Yangtze River, where Century Cruises has its roots, with the Danube, Rhine, Moselle and other major European waterways. For centuries, rivers have served as essential routes for people, goods and ideas, contributing to the birth and development of cultures, culinary traditions, art forms and communities. Century Cruises aims to turn this heritage into a distinctive element of the onboard experience.
The company’s philosophy goes beyond simply connecting two geographical regions. It seeks to create a dialogue between the history, art, gastronomy, landscapes and traditions of East and West, highlighting what different cultures have in common while preserving their individual identities.
This vision will also be reflected in the interiors of Century Diamond. The main restaurant will draw inspiration from the Black Forest in Germany, enriched with details that reference the company’s Chinese heritage. The lounge, meanwhile, will evoke the elegant and welcoming atmosphere of a traditional Viennese café, complemented by artworks inspired by Century Cruises’ Asian roots.
From its debut in August 2027, Century Diamond will be primarily based on the Rhine. The ship will mainly operate eight-day itineraries between Basel and Amsterdam, sailing along one of Europe’s most iconic and historically rich river corridors. Along the way, guests will encounter medieval towns, vineyards, castles and major cultural capitals, travelling through centuries of European history. Some departures will also go beyond the traditional Rhine itinerary, allowing the ship to explore other waterways and destinations as Century Cruises progressively expands its European programme.
Together with Century Star, which operates on the Danube, the new vessel marks the beginning of the development of a European fleet designed not simply to navigate the continent’s rivers, but to tell the story of the cultures and communities that have developed along their banks.
David Fredericks, President & General Manager – The Americas at Century Cruises, has highlighted the project’s distinct international identity. According to Fredericks, Thomas and the Century One team in Basel have successfully translated the “Rivers Intertwined” vision into reality, creating a philosophy that sets Century Cruises apart within the European river cruising landscape. The aim is to bring the company’s Eastern heritage into the European context, creating an encounter between Eastern and Western cultures and an experience that highlights the distinctive qualities of both worlds.
Century Cruises’ European ships will be designed specifically with European and North American travellers in mind, featuring interiors with strong European influences while incorporating references to the company’s Asian history and origins.
The “Rivers Intertwined” concept will also extend to the culinary offering. Daily menus will be complemented by regional specialities, local wines and beers inspired by the destinations visited along the way. At the same time, the cuisine will maintain a connection with Century Cruises’ origins through the inclusion of a Chinese dish on the menu, serving as a reference to the company’s roots along the Yangtze.
It is precisely this balance between familiarity and discovery that represents one of the project’s defining elements: rather than replicating an existing river cruising model, Century Cruises aims to create an offering in which two worlds can come together.
With Century Diamond, the company is therefore doing more than simply adding a new vessel to its fleet. It is bringing a distinct identity to the Rhine, built around the meeting of cultures, sustainability and a new approach to river luxury. Together with Century Star and the two additional ships planned, the project is intended to establish an increasingly recognisable presence for Century Cruises on Europe’s great rivers.
