Fincantieri: Two New Ships for AIDA Cruises

Fincantieri has signed a landmark agreement with Carnival Corporation & plc for the design and construction of two new cruise ships for AIDA Cruises, the leading cruise brand in the German market.

The agreement, which is considered highly significant (still subject to customary financing and contractual conditions), marks another step forward in the strategic collaboration between Fincantieri and the global cruise giant.

The two vessels, scheduled for delivery in early 2030 and late 2031 respectively, will each feature approximately 2,100 guest cabins and will be equipped with multi-fuel engines. These engines will be capable of operating on LNG (liquefied natural gas), biodiesel, and other next-generation sustainable fuels, fully aligning with the maritime sector’s decarbonization goals. This order marks the first direct collaboration between Fincantieri and AIDA Cruises, further expanding the Italian group’s presence within Carnival Corporation’s global brand portfolio.

With this new agreement, Fincantieri reaches a total of 77 cruise ships built for Carnival Corporation, confirming a solid and long-standing partnership. It is a collaboration that continues to generate value through innovation, sustainability, and long-term industrial vision.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, emphasized that the agreement with Carnival Corporation represents a major milestone for the company. He stated that Fincantieri is honored to have been chosen to build, for the first time in its history, ships for AIDA Cruises, highlighting how this achievement reflects the group’s ability to serve the full range of Carnival Corporation’s brands. Folgiero also reaffirmed that the new vessels will feature cutting-edge technologies in terms of sustainability and efficiency, further strengthening the leadership of both Fincantieri and Carnival Corporation in cruise industry innovation.

With the signing of this agreement, Fincantieri consolidates its position as a benchmark in the construction of high-tech, sustainable cruise ships. The collaboration with Carnival Corporation is further strengthened, now extending to AIDA Cruises and opening new horizons for the Italian shipbuilding industry. The future of cruising lies in greener solutions—and Fincantieri is ready to lead the way.
