Fincantieri strengthens its alliance with NCL Holdings
Fincantieri further strengthens its global leadership in the cruise sector with the acquisition of a major order from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. for the construction of three new next-generation ships.
The agreement, considered of significant value and subject to financing and customary contractual conditions, marks a new milestone in the long-standing strategic partnership between the two groups and confirms the central role of Italian shipbuilding in the future development of the global cruise industry.
The three vessels will be built for the brands Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, each designed as a sister ship to the most recent newbuilds delivered by Fincantieri to the respective brands. Construction will take place entirely at the Group’s Italian shipyards, with deliveries scheduled between 2036 and 2037. The new ships will represent the evolution of the most advanced platforms currently in service, integrating the highest standards of technological innovation, comfort, and environmental sustainability, in line with the shared commitment to responsible and long-term growth.

In detail, the vessel destined for Norwegian Cruise Line will be a large-scale unit with a gross tonnage of approximately 227,000 tons and capacity for over 5,000 berths. Designed according to the highest standards of comfort and technology, it will represent a further step forward in the brand’s ability to offer innovative onboard experiences, featuring spacious environments, advanced technological solutions, and an increasing focus on energy efficiency and the reduction of environmental impact.
The new ship for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, a brand positioned in the ultra-luxury segment, will have a gross tonnage of approximately 77,000 tons and will accommodate around 822 guests. Its smaller dimensions compared to the Norwegian unit are consistent with the brand’s philosophy, which prioritizes a highly personalized level of service, generous space per passenger, and an exclusive and refined experience. At the same time, the vessel for Oceania Cruises, with a gross tonnage of approximately 86,000 tons and a capacity of around 1,390 berths, will be designed in line with the brand’s focus on immersive destination experiences, combining elegance, comfort, and a strong identity linked to cultural and gastronomic discovery.
The order represents a key milestone in Fincantieri’s industrial strategy outlined in the 2026–2030 Plan, which places leadership, innovation, and the transformation of the global shipbuilding industry at its core. As highlighted by Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Pierroberto Folgiero, this achievement consolidates the collaboration with a prestigious and visionary partner such as Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, while further strengthening Fincantieri’s historic role as a global benchmark in the construction of technologically advanced cruise ships.
The new vessels will integrate advanced technologies, cutting-edge design solutions, systems focused on energy efficiency, and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. The objective is to combine design excellence, construction quality, and cost optimization throughout the entire lifecycle of the ship, while delivering an increasingly sophisticated passenger experience. This approach reflects the Group’s determination to anticipate market needs and to actively contribute to defining the new standards of the cruise industry.

From an industrial perspective, the agreement provides Fincantieri with long-term visibility and a solid workload for its Italian shipyards through 2037. This production continuity will enable the company to plan strategic investments in production capacity, process digitalization, and the development of sustainable shipbuilding. In a competitive and rapidly evolving environment, the ability to anticipate and allocate resources and innovation represents a key factor in maintaining and strengthening international leadership.
The partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, already consolidated through numerous previous collaborations, therefore confirms itself as a strategic axis for both parties. For the cruise operator, the new ships will serve as essential platforms to support the growth of its three brands within their respective market segments; for Fincantieri, the order represents a validation of its ability to design and build complex, highly customized vessels, meeting the needs of some of the most dynamic and innovative companies in the global cruise industry.
