Holland America Line is taking a decisive step into the future with the launch of Holland America Evolution, the largest investment in the company's 153-year history. This ambitious initiative is designed to redefine the onboard experience while preserving the timeless values that have made the brand renowned around the world.
The Evolution program will encompass six ships—four Vista Class vessels and two Signature Class ships—through a comprehensive, ship-by-ship transformation. With a total investment exceeding $500 million, the project will extend beyond public spaces to include a significant expansion of staterooms and suites, increasing both capacity and accommodation choices for guests. The goal is clear: to enhance comfort, broaden the onboard offering, and introduce new experiences without compromising the intimate and refined atmosphere that defines Holland America Line.

The first chapter of this transformation will begin with Oosterdam, which is scheduled to debut in her newly redesigned form in autumn 2027. To bring the project to life, Holland America Line is partnering with its long-standing shipbuilding collaborator Fincantieri, ensuring the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
The refurbishment will significantly expand the ship's accommodation options with the addition of 76 new staterooms, while thoughtfully redesigning existing accommodations. At the same time, beloved signature features—such as the panoramic "Room at the Rail" spaces that offer guests a closer connection to the sea—will be carefully preserved.
Among the most anticipated additions are the new Solo Verandahs, a collection of 30 staterooms designed specifically for solo travelers. Each will feature a private veranda, a dedicated workspace, and all the premium amenities that characterize the Holland America Line experience, meeting the growing demand for accommodations tailored to independent travelers.
The transformation will also introduce the new Bridgeview Suites—two exclusive accommodations located at the bow of the ship, offering spectacular 180-degree panoramic ocean views. Spanning approximately 900 square feet, these suites will feature wraparound balconies, separate living and sleeping areas, and a design inspired by the commanding views from the ship's bridge.
The Pinnacle Suite will undergo a complete redesign, becoming the largest suite ever introduced on a Vista Class ship. Offering approximately 1,550 square feet of elegant and functional living space, it will include a spacious separate living room, bedroom, private bathroom, walk-in wardrobe, panoramic balcony, and carefully designed interiors that maximize comfort, privacy, and luxury.
The accommodation enhancements will also include the introduction of Vista Suites, previously available only aboard Pinnacle Class ships and now making their debut on Oosterdam. The ship will feature 24 bright and spacious suites with expansive windows, comfortable sitting areas, and private verandas, all designed to showcase sweeping ocean views and elevate the cruising experience.
Beyond the accommodation upgrades, Oosterdam will also unveil new social and dining venues, further enriching the ship's culinary and hospitality offerings. One of the most exciting additions is the debut of the Grand Dutch Café, one of the most beloved venues aboard Pinnacle Class ships, now appearing on a Vista Class vessel for the first time.
Inspired by traditional European cafés and the company's Dutch heritage, the Grand Dutch Café will serve as an elegant gathering place open throughout the day, ideal for a quick coffee, a light meal, or simply relaxing in a refined yet informal atmosphere. Located on Deck 3 near the main atrium, the venue will provide guests with a welcoming space where they can enjoy the journey at a leisurely pace, perfectly reflecting Holland America Line's signature philosophy of unhurried cruising.
Sustainability also plays a central role in the Evolution program. The refurbishment includes initiatives designed to reduce environmental impact through the reuse of materials, improved energy efficiency, and a more responsible approach to interior design and construction.
Holland America Evolution is far more than a refurbishment program—it is a bold statement of intent. Through this landmark investment, the company demonstrates its commitment to innovation, comfort, and sustainability while remaining deeply connected to its rich heritage. In an increasingly competitive cruise market, this evolution strikes the perfect balance between modernity and tradition, setting a new benchmark for the future of premium cruising.
