AIDAdiva Gets a Fresh New Look: all the news

AIDAdiva, the lead ship of AIDA Cruises‘ Sphinx class, has recently completed an extensive seven-week refurbishment at the Chantier Naval shipyard in Marseille, France, from February 3 to March 21, 2025. This major overhaul marks the launch of AIDA Evolution, the most ambitious fleet modernization initiative in the company’s history.

Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, stated that with AIDA Evolution, the company has embarked on the largest fleet modernization program ever undertaken. According to Eichhorn, AIDA is investing hundreds of millions of euros into just the first three drydockings to prepare its ships for the future, focusing on both guest experience and technological advancement.

During the refurbishment, all staterooms were fully renovated with new curtains, carpets, and furnishings in bright, contemporary tones. Some cabins were redesigned to accommodate up to four guests, enhancing family flexibility. Six spacious new family suites were added at the stern, featuring separate living and sleeping areas, private terraces, and space for up to five guests plus a crib. Suite guests now enjoy exclusive access to the Sky Deck and the Rossini Lounge—new areas designed for ultimate relaxation and comfort.

Public areas on decks 9, 10, and 11 were reimagined to expand the culinary experience on board. Among the gastronomic highlights are the French Kiss restaurant, serving French specialties, and East Fusion, offering Asian cuisine. Other new additions include the Tapas Bar for lovers of Spanish flavors and a revamped Yachtclub Restaurant. Bar options have also expanded with the introduction of the Panorama Bar, Ice Bar, Tokyo Bar, and Lanai Bar, enriching the ship’s onboard entertainment.

The Theatrium—the ship’s vibrant entertainment hub—was upgraded with new seating featuring backrests, a state-of-the-art audio and lighting system, and a refreshed color concept, delivering a more immersive show experience.

The wellness center has been completely redesigned based on the Organic Spa concept, now featuring two new wellness suites equipped with private whirlpools, saunas, and waterbeds. The beauty salon has also been expanded to include a dedicated nail care area.

For younger guests, a new playground has been created on Deck 14, including a 7.5-meter-high climbing tower, slides, and adventure caves. The Kids Club has also been redesigned to provide a welcoming and stimulating environment for the ship’s youngest passengers.

In addition to guest-focused upgrades, AIDAdiva has implemented numerous technological innovations and sustainable measures. Among these is the installation of a new reverse osmosis system to optimize onboard freshwater production, and an innovative Solid Waste Processor that reduces waste volume by up to 95%.

The ship has also been equipped with a next-generation biocide-free underwater coating, which significantly reduces drag resistance, contributing to improved energy efficiency. The entire IT infrastructure has been overhauled, including the installation of 50 kilometers of new cabling and the replacement of 22 tons of electronic components.

After the refurbishment, AIDAdiva celebrated her return to service with an inaugural Mediterranean cruise from March 23 to March 30, 2025. Following this, the ship offered two additional itineraries departing from Rome/Civitavecchia, sailing along the Italian coast and Malta, with stops in Valletta, Syracuse, Catania, Palermo, Naples, and Olbia. In November 2025, AIDAdiva will embark on her first world cruise, a 133-day adventure that will span five continents and 27 countries, including the United States (East and West Coasts) and Japan, with a New Year’s Eve celebration in Hawaii.
