The Cormorant at 55 South: Public Spaces Revealed

Silversea Cruises has unveiled the interior spaces of its new 150-room hotel, The Cormorant at 55 South, in Puerto Williams, designed to simplify travel to one of the world’s most remote destinations while enhancing the overall guest experience.

The hotel, which will welcome its first guests in October 2026, takes its name from both its unique location and the resilient seabird, and will serve as a cornerstone of Silversea Cruises’ innovative Antarctica Fly Cruise programme, offering some of the most diverse polar experiences in the luxury travel landscape.

Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea Cruises, explained that The Cormorant at 55 South marks an exciting new chapter for the brand, extending the company’s commitment to luxury travel all the way to Antarctica. The property will offer guests the same distinctive comfort and personalized service characteristic of Silversea ships, immersing them in the region’s rich culture, traditions, and natural beauty. The interiors have been carefully designed to reflect the unique spirit of this extraordinary destination.

The public spaces at The Cormorant are inspired by nature and designed to encourage relaxation, reflection, and discovery, combining Silversea’s signature elegance with the pristine beauty of Patagonia. Cozy lounges, thoughtfully curated communal areas, and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape invite guests to pause and connect with the spirit of the far south.

The Fireplace Lounge, inspired by the reverence of fire as a symbol of gathering, hospitality, and storytelling, will serve as a comfortable retreat. Featuring elegant seating, expansive lounge windows with spectacular views of Patagonia, fine wines, and signature cocktails, the space is further defined by a one-of-a-kind fireplace that anchors the room and enhances its character.

The 150 rooms at The Cormorant are thoughtfully furnished, offering guests a relaxing environment with views of the forest or the Beagle Channel, bringing them closer to the extraordinary natural beauty of Patagonia. Interiors feature warm wood tones and natural elements, creating an authentic and calming atmosphere. Each room also includes handcrafted items made by Chilean artisans, celebrating local and regional culture.

Beyond the nature-inspired spaces of Puerto Williams, guests can enjoy a culinary experience rooted in Chilean flavors. The hotel’s restaurant offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with menus highlighting local ingredients and traditions. Latitude 55—situated near the 55th parallel south—features dishes that celebrate the flavors of Patagonia, combining regional produce with the chef’s creations. In the evening, the restaurant becomes a convivial gathering place, where guests share stories of adventure and anticipation for journeys ahead. Bar Sur serves as the social heart of The Cormorant, offering tea and snacks during the day and a selection of wines and spirits in the evening, all inspired by regional flavors. From wine tastings celebrating Patagonia’s winemaking heritage to cocktail masterclasses featuring Chilean Pisco, the country’s iconic grape spirit, every moment captures the essence of exploration.

To commemorate a visit to the world’s southernmost hotel, guests can explore Uncharted, The Cormorant’s boutique, where Chilean crafts and expedition-inspired accessories become treasured mementos of a unique and memorable experience.

The hotel is part of Silversea Cruises’ Antarctica Fly Cruise pioneering itinerary programme, which allows guests to bypass the Drake Passage. The journey includes a hotel stay in Santiago, followed by a direct charter flight to Puerto Williams, where guests will spend one night at The Cormorant before continuing to King George Island for embarkation. On the return, an additional overnight stay at the hotel precedes the flight back to Santiago.

Staying at The Cormorant also gives guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural surroundings of Puerto Williams through walks, hikes, kayaking, and wildlife-watching activities, enriching the exploration experience. The hotel operates seasonally from October to March and is staffed according to The Silversea Way, a philosophy combining personalized service, in-depth destination knowledge, and attentive care to guest needs, ensuring a consistently elevated level of hospitality.
