NCL launches operations from Jacksonville
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), one of the world’s leading cruise companies, has officially launched its operations in Jacksonville with the first departure of the Norwegian Gem, celebrated through an onboard ceremony attended by institutional and port representatives.
This event marks the beginning of the new multi-year partnership between NCL and the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), announced last year, which includes a regular schedule of seasonal cruises from November to April through 2028. The new routes will feature itineraries to the Bahamas and the Caribbean, significantly expanding the offerings for passengers from the Southeastern United States.

Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., reiterated that the partnership with JAXPORT underscores the company’s commitment to making the travel experience increasingly accessible and of the highest quality. He also highlighted the new opportunities for travelers heading to the Bahamas, particularly to Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island, which is currently undergoing a major transformation and will feature a 1.4-acre pool area with a swim-up bar and family-friendly play zones.
Local authorities also welcomed the company’s arrival with enthusiasm. Mayor Donna Deegan emphasized that the expansion of cruise services represents a tangible sign of Jacksonville’s tourism and economic growth. She was joined by Council Vice President Nick Howland, who described the collaboration as an important recognition for the city, reaffirming the commitment to welcoming both crew and passengers in the best possible way.
For the entire 2025/2026 season, the Norwegian Gem will be homeported in Jacksonville, offering a range of services that will enhance the travel experience for thousands of cruisers. The ship, with a capacity of 2,344 guests, features state-of-the-art wellness areas such as the Mandara Spa & Salon, a vibrant evening entertainment program—including Blazing Boots and Ignite the Night—and a rich dining selection with 12 restaurants and 14 bars and lounges offering everything from Asian to Italian, French, and Brazilian cuisine.

The Port of Jacksonville is a strategic choice for NCL. Located in the heart of the Southeastern United States, it is accessible by car in less than a day from over 98 million people, making it one of the most convenient departure points for those wishing to cruise close to home. The JAXPORT cruise terminal also offers on-site parking, direct connections to the international airport, and easy access to major highways such as I-10 and I-95.
Soo Gilvarry, Vice President of JAXPORT, commented that the arrival of Norwegian Cruise Line further enhances the port’s value and its appeal to travelers, while Michael Corrigan, President and CEO of Visit Jacksonville, noted that the city welcomes more than 10 million visitors each year. He emphasized that NCL’s arrival will help expand this visitor base, providing new opportunities for growth in the local tourism sector.
The offered itineraries include short tropical escapes to the Bahamas, with stops at Great Stirrup Cay and Grand Bahama Island, as well as calls in Key West. For those wishing to explore the Caribbean, 11- and 12-day cruises allow guests to visit some of the region’s most iconic destinations, such as Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Antigua, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, offering a wide range of excursions, from pristine beaches to more adrenaline-pumping adventures.

What makes the offer even more attractive is NCL’s all-inclusive package, which includes an open bar with premium brands, specialty dining credits, high-speed Wi-Fi, and excursion credits at every port. The company also offers perks such as a free flight for the second guest and free travel for children on over 600 selected departures. Rates start at $279 for mini-cruises and $749 for extended Caribbean itineraries, with discounts of up to $1,000 available for a limited time.
With this new partnership, Jacksonville takes a decisive step in positioning itself as a competitive and expanding homeport, while Norwegian Cruise Line continues to invest in new markets and strengthen its presence in the global cruise landscape.
