Velarca, a company within the Isola Corvus Group specializing in the development of innovative concepts for the maritime industry, has unveiled Velarca Explorer, a 100-meter luxury expedition vessel designed to redefine the future of sustainable maritime exploration.
Designed to accommodate just 32 guests, supported by an equal number of crew members, Velarca Explorer breaks away from the trend toward ever-larger expedition ships, focusing instead on exclusivity, direct contact with nature, and a more authentic and immersive travel experience.

At the heart of the project is an advanced hybrid propulsion architecture that combines electric power, biodiesel, and the proprietary Velarca Rig system, a wind-assisted propulsion solution conceived as an integral part of the vessel’s structure. Rather than serving as a simple auxiliary system, it contributes both to the ship’s performance and to its distinctive design identity.
The vessel has been developed to operate through three complementary modes. In ports, fjords, and environmentally sensitive areas, it can navigate exclusively using battery-stored energy, significantly reducing emissions and noise. During voyages, the Velarca Rig system harnesses wind power to provide substantial propulsion assistance, while onboard systems are designed to regenerate electrical energy while underway. Biodiesel, meanwhile, ensures the range and reliability required for long-distance expeditions and safe access to remote destinations.
This combination significantly reduces environmental impact without compromising the operational reliability required for expeditions in some of the world’s most isolated regions, while also providing a quieter, more immersive travel experience that remains closely connected to the surrounding environment.
