CSI Europe closes the year in spectacular style

The Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Europe (CSI Europe) closed the annual calendar of events dedicated to ship interiors with a memorable edition, celebrating an extraordinary year marked by new partnerships, innovative launches, and the richest orderbook and refit plans ever.

The event’s debut in Hamburg, hosting the European edition for the first time, represented not only a geographical shift but also a clear signal of Europe’s growing importance as the beating heart of the global cruise industry.

With a festive atmosphere, palpable energy, and unprecedented participation across the entire supply chain, CSI Europe confirmed itself as one of the most significant gatherings for designers, shipyards, cruise lines, suppliers, and architecture studios specializing in ship interiors. Two intense days, packed with meetings, content, and celebrations, showcased a sector in full evolution, dynamic and ready to face future challenges in sustainability, innovation, and experiential design.

The 2025 edition of CSI Europe opened with an inaugural evening that perfectly captured the spirit of the host city. The opening party, held at the evocative Former Mains Customs Office, embraced Hamburg’s typical holiday atmosphere, transforming the outdoor area into a true winter village. Christmas market-style stalls welcomed participants with hot Glühwein, roasted nuts, pretzels, and sausages, creating an informal and convivial environment. Guests—including exhibitors, design studios, cruise companies, and shipyards—were encouraged to wear festive sweaters and themed outfits, contributing to a joyful mood that fostered networking from the very first moments.

Among the most celebrated attendees for their festive spirit, the team from Jacob Jürgensen Wood stood out with coordinated Fair Isle sweaters, perfectly embodying the event’s cheerful vibe. The evening kicked off the exhibition with great enthusiasm, providing an ideal opportunity to forge new connections ahead of the busy days on the show floor.

With its move to continental Europe, CSI Europe brought together over 300 exhibitors, including suppliers, outfitters, and design studios, of which no fewer than 100 were participating for the first time. This figure reflects the event’s steady growth and its ability to attract new players across the entire cruise design supply chain. Among the exhibitors were leading names such as Zenko HF Interiors, Marine Interiors (Fincantieri), Crivellari Divani & Poltrone, Harmony Marine Solutions, Ekornes, Tuuci, Pooky, MEYER Re, and many others. The event offered a rare opportunity to celebrate the craftsmanship communities that represent the beating heart of the maritime industry.

In this context, initiatives such as the Finnish Marine Industry project, which involved over 50 professionals in a dedicated photoshoot highlighting Finland’s role as a cornerstone of the shipbuilding sector, strengthened a sense of identity and belonging within the industry. Many exhibitors, both veterans and newcomers, described CSI Europe as a “meticulously curated” and “mature” event, praising the balance between business, content, and informal networking opportunities.

One of the most anticipated highlights returned with Pitch and Pint, a light-hearted yet high-impact challenge that allows new exhibitors to present their commercial proposition in a one-minute pitch in front of a jury of industry experts. The winner was Panomax Cruises & Yachts, who impressed the audience by unrolling a several-meter-long banner among the rows of spectators.

Creativity was also at the forefront across the exhibition floor. Oceancircle organized a bracelet-making workshop using waste recovered from the oceans, demonstrating how sustainability and design can merge in a tangible and meaningful way. Meanwhile, SD Marine Interiors turned traditional roles upside down by hosting a repair competition for visitors, challenging them to meet the high standards required of naval outfitters.

Throughout the event, several awards were presented to recognize the most outstanding stands. Oceancircle received the prize for the most sustainable stand, HEWI for the most accessible stand, while Zenko was honored for best stand design.

Over a thousand meetings took place during the speed networking sessions, fostering dialogue between suppliers and buyers in search of solutions to reduce weight, improve sustainability, extend product lifecycles, and ensure a competitive edge. The peer-to-peer networking, now in its second year, also allowed competing brands to engage as colleagues, sharing ideas, inspiration, and best practices in a collaborative environment.

A distinctive feature of CSI Europe 2025 was the integration of content directly at the exhibitors’ stands. Companies such as Oceancircle, Herculan, CITA Design Studio, Harmony Marine Solutions, Robos Contract Furniture, and LIND DNA hosted in-depth sessions, attracting professionals eager to acquire new skills. Participating brands included Riverside Luxury Cruises, Swan Hellenic, Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, MSC Cruises, Cruise Saudi, TUI Cruises, Hurtigruten, COLUMBIA, and Allstars Design. The second day placed a strong emphasis on shipbuilding, featuring the first-ever panel dedicated exclusively to shipyards, with participation from Lloyd Werft, Meyer Werft, and Meyer Turku.

The Sustainable Design Summit recorded its most attended session ever, involving over 130 professionals in an open discussion on ESG, sustainability, and design processes. Led by Mike Lambourn (PriestmanGoode) and Zoe Li (Archer Hotel Capital), the debate addressed the sector’s challenges, obstacles, and future outlook. The event culminated with the Cruise Ship Interiors Awards 2025 ceremony, celebrating excellence in cruise ship design. Among the winners were Walt Disney Imagineering, AIDA Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, SMC Design, Meyer Wismar, and Partner Ship Design, showcasing a sector rich in talent, creativity, and vision.

The debut of CSI Europe in Hamburg marked a pivotal moment for the cruise design industry. The event successfully combined business, innovation, sustainability, and community, providing a unique platform for dialogue among all players in the supply chain. Looking ahead, CSI Europe will return to Hamburg Messe + Congress on 2–3 December 2026, ready to further consolidate its role as a global benchmark.
